DJ SKEE MAKES BILLBOARD’S “POWER PLAYERS: 30 UNDER 30″ LIST
August 25th, 2010Each year, Billboard Magazine asks their readers submit nominations to make the coveted top “30 under 30” Power Players list. This list truly depicts the “who’s who” in the world of young executives and names that have made the list in the past include Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as well as other notable honorees that are already heading companies in their 20s.
With over 200 nominations submitted this year, Billboard editors were faced with the tough decision to narrow the list down to just 30 of the top, rising industry executives that are driving the industry forward with their creative and business vision. Not surprisingly, the homie DJ Skee is among the list of successful names that has topped the list this time around.
At only 26, DJ Skee has quickly become a music industry tastemaker and is constantly tapped by the hottest artists, record labels and brands for his unique ability to help guide them to the next level. In addition to having a radio show on KIIS-FM (LA) and four Sirius XM shows, DJ Skee is also the founder of Skee.TV, a multimedia music, marketing and production company, where he has worked with artists ranging from Snoop Dogg to Travis Barker, created innovative marketing campaigns for top Fortune 500 companies and produced some of the hottest videos around. This has been an exciting year for DJ Skee and SkeeTV and we look forward to continuing the momentum!

Cashmere Event Recap: Rock the Bells 2010
August 23rd, 2010Rap legends gathered this past Saturday night in San Bernardino for Rock the Bells. Snoop Dogg, Slick Rick, the Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, and others each performed one of their classic albums from start to finish. This was an unbelievable line-up that true hip-hop fans were dying to attend.

The most anticipated performance of the night was turned in by former Fugees band member, Lauryn Hill. L Boogie gave an amazing performance as fans were extremely happy to see her rock the stage performing her hits “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, “Lost Ones”, and the Fugee song, “Ready or Not”.
A Tribe Called Quest took to the main stage performing their legendary LP, Midnight Marauders. A revitalized Tribe Called Quest displayed why Q-Tip and Phife remain the gold standard of rap duos, trading off bars perfectly. After performing the entirety of their 1993 classic, the two brought out former member Jarobi, plus a surprise appearance from Busta Rhymes, whose spit his verse from “Scenario” that turned the head-nodding crowd into rowdy heads.
The Wu-Tang Clan (with Method Man, RZA, Raekwon, Ghostface, GZA, and Inspectah Deck all in attendance) got started on their hip-hop classic, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the audience responded by collectively throwing their W’s up in the air. All the Clan had to do was play “Can It Be All So Simple” and exhort crowd members to hold up their lighters and the crowd complied with sea flame began to illuminate the dark crowd.
Last, but not least, was the headliner of the show, Snoop Dogg. Strolling onto the stage with the famous Doggystyle album cover constructed as stage backdrop, the Boss Dogg brought out a slew of guests to run through his first album, including: RBX, The Lady of Rage, Daz, and Kurupt, with a special video cameo appearance by Dr. Dre. The Doggfather was on his home turf and sounded just as crisp as he did some 20 years ago. Snoop’s video skits gave emphasis to his performance. No other artist had the amazing video background and effects like Snoop.
Some of the Cashmere crew were in attendance, and all can attest that the long wait in line, under the hot sun was well worth it. As seeing these legends perform at Rock the Bells is a one in a life time event.
Check out some of the performances from this past weekend’s all-star musical event below.

Is Facebook Moving in on Foursquare’s territory?
August 18th, 2010Location based check-in applications for mobile phones such as foursquare and Gowalla have turned life into somewhat of a virtual game. Users can use the tool to let friends know where they’re at and what they are up to—they can even earn badges along the way that social networking slackers incentive for getting out of the house and moving around. But, what started out as a simple idea is now going to a whole new level.
Facebook is expected to announce its leap into the world of location-based social networking. This new venture may to wipe out all the competition as well as make “checking-in” at locations a common, everyday practice. Facebook’s decision is expected to allow third party applications, but its half-a-billion users will most likely overwhelm competitors such as HotPotato, Gowalla and Loopt.
FourSquare’s CEO Dennis Crowley, however, isn’t running scared, stating on twitter, “Ah, check-ins are just ‘Act 1′ of the @foursquare story. We getting ready to roll out Act 2 and Act 3.
”
We at Cashmere are avid foursquare users and will be paying close attention to how this plays out. What do you think about Facebook’s new endeavor into the word of location-based social media?

Game Preps for R.E.D. Album with Brake Lights Mixtape
August 16th, 2010The reaction most individuals have when they hear the title of Game’s upcoming fourth album R.E.D. is that the west coast rapper must be paying tribute to his gang affiliation with ‘The Bloods’ street gang. In fact it has nothing to do with the bloods, instead being short for ‘rededicated’. Speculation that he would retire after his third album turned out to be false as he’s releasing his new album is set to release August 24, 2010. R.E.D. also marks Game’s return to Interscope, the label that released his first album before the conflict with labelmate 50 Cent.
But in the meantime, Game is giving his fans a brief teaser by with his new Brake Lights mixtape. Produced by the legendary Cool & Dre and hosted by DJ Skee, Brake Lights already has Twitter peeps buzzing as he collaborated with artists like Akon, Nas, Robin Thicke, and Snoop Dogg. It’s definitely a must-listen, especially for the tracks “Phantom Of The Opera” and “Hustlin (Champions Anthem)”.
Game’s Brake Lights mixtape has already more than 35,000 downloads in just its first month of release. You can download your copy here. And don’t forget Game’s new album R.E.D. hit stores August 24th.
