Are you the next Sing Star?
Friday, October 31st, 2008
Back when we all playing Kung Fu and Shinobi on Nintendo did we ever really think that our video game system would become the center of our home entertainment system? (Well, actually, back then it probably was.) But with the advent of Nintendo’s wildly popular Wii gaming system and interactive music games across all platforms, the gaming console is truly becoming our full service entrainment hub.
Guitar Hero led the charge. Now a host of similar games are coming to feast on any leftovers. The wildly popular SingStar continues the tradition. And they have built quite a franchise in the process. From the Legends edition, which features classic hits, to the Country edition, that boasts songs from Faith Hill and Kenny Chesney, the game offers a unique karaoke experience for any house party. And the new SingStar Vol. 2, for the PS3, comes complete with SingStore, an online interface that allows you to download from a library of karaoke favorites. Bobby Brown, Eminem and Panic! At The Disco can all get murdered by someone with terrible tone and pitch!
We can’t wait to get a keg, fire up the grill and have the Cashmere crew over to see who got skills on the mic!
(Also check out the cool bag that they sent!)

Jay-Z re-opens the historic Palladium
Friday, October 17th, 2008
It was Frank Sinatra that was the last to grace the stage for a “Grand Opening” night at the legendary Hollywood Palladium. And after entering the stage to his welcoming “Say Hello”, Jay Z let the crowd know that in many ways he fashioned himself after Ol’ Blue Eyes (Add Ol’ Brown Eyes to Hova’s deep list of monikers!)
Who better that Jay Z to perform for the “Gran Re-Opening” of Sunset Blvd’s historic live music venue. After all, Jigga just signed a reported $150 million deal with the building’s new management and exclusive booking agent, Live Nation. Moreover, who else could rip through a set that includes nearly a decade and a half of certified bangers. From “Hard Knock Life” to “Roc Boys,” Jay and his well dressed live band breezed through his hit filled catalog to the appreciation of a packed house that included red carpet stars like Tyrese, Nikki Hilton and Heroes’ Hayden Panettiere.
While the crowd was surely anticipating a slew of guest performances, the only cameo of the night—aside from the ever present hypeman Memphis Bleek—was the “Jay Z of the South,” TI, who along with Jay rambled of their verses from the crowd pleasing “Swagger Like Us”. Another noteworthy appearance was new addition, DJ AM, who luckily survived a harrowing plane crash in South Carolina just weeks ago. Aside, from a noticeable bald spot, AM seemed more than ready to rock, even assisting Jay through a quick inventory of hits that provided the audience with just snippets of Jigga’s impressive catalog.
But the true star of the night was the newly remodeled venue. The upgraded Palladium boasts a completely new interior and exterior—with a new dance floor, VIP balcony seating, additional concessions, and an improved stage and sound system.
All in all, the night was an exciting and entertaining way to welcome the performance hall back to its position atop Hollywood’s ever expanding list of venues.
KANYE WEST BARES IT ALL AT HIS 808S & HEARTBREAK LISTENING EVENT IN LOS ANGELES
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008
Last night, the Cashmere Crew attended Kanye West’s invite -only new album debute of 808s & Heartbreak, at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles via a collaboration with Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft. After being personally welcomed by Kanye, we walked into what a reception area with an open bar serving Veuve Clicquot and Moet, and a DJ. Minutes later, we walked up a driveway to a darkened room where approximately forty nude women in black stilleto heels, stood in the middle of an open room. The women were backlit by glowing lights—mostly red, blue, and purple. Then the entire album began playing, without introduction or explanation.
Three songs in, “Love Lockdown” played and some of the models started moving…sitting down or even laying on the floor. Front seat and on the floor was Mos Def. Rick Ross, Jay Z, Will.i.am and Michael Rapaport were among the many folks in the house and within arms reach in this small and intimate setting.
The album is almost entirely sung by Kanye, with the exception of a verse by Young Jeezy on “Amazing” and a duet with Lil Wayne. It is sung almost entirely through Auto-Tune. This is definitely a different type of Kanye record that is very creative and experimental.
The album ended with “Coldest Winter,” which is about his mother. After the album played Kanye appeared with a mic, asked for silence, thanked everyone for coming and introduced Vanessa Beecroft. She discussed that the piece was conceptualized and executed in one week, which is a third of the time it took Kanye to record the entire album. After she spoke, Kanye explained how this album is about the “freedom” to do what you want to do, that he used Auto-Tune because it is “the funnest thing to use.” Then he said 808s & Heartbreak was about exposing it all, emotional nakedness. “People are going to judge this on, ‘Is it hot or not?’ It doesn’t matter at this point. It’s like, How do you classify your grandmother’s love? Do you give it two or three mics? “ It comes from the heart, that’s what it’s all about.” He mentioned that he will have another album out next June. Then the DJ played “Good Life” and we headed to grab our cars from valet before it got too hectic.

Inglewood Always Up To No Good:
J’s pick of the week is the music video from local Inglewood resident, 211.
He is currently signed to CTE West/Def Jam, and works closely with Young
Jeezy. The song uses the same production as “Independent” by Webbie (f/ Lil
Boosie and Lil Phat). 211 also has a new single featuring Bigg Snoop Dogg
called “Just Like That” produced by Terrace Martin. For more info on 211,

The world of exotic cars is going green
Lamborghini has pulled the wraps of the Estoque and suggested it could be — get this — a hybrid. That’s right a hybrid…Lamborghini calls the Estoque an “everyday sports car,” with $200,000 price tag that is. It combines the performance of the Gallardo with the convenience and comfort of a sedan. Most of the cars are used for less than 5,000 kilometers a year, this car is something different, It’s for every day use. This redefines the hybrid game… So long Prius, hello Estoque.
Seung on the future of foamposite
Nike Foamposite Boots. DC was the first adopters of the Nike Boot. Now the number one selling foamposite sneaker is mashing it up with the popular rugged boot. This is so futuristic that it could time warp. I wish it was colder in LA, so I could find an excuse to rock these joints.
Stylin’ and Survivin’ with Phil
This polo is the polo of all polo’s. Why? Because a Ralph Lauren polo will not save you from a bullet. But this Calbellero polo will actually save Phil from a 9mm bullet. Thats right it is bullet proof from a 9 mil and smaller. Could come in handy working in the hood. This is one polo tee that is actually worth what it is selling for 12 g’s.
Kelvin’s Key to Sara Palin’s Debate Plan:
This is my pick.
Cause it’s so damn hilarious.
And true.
And scary.
Keepin’ it Gangsta with Dan Akroyd’s Vodka
Dan Akroyd is presenting us with a new vodka called Crystal Head Vodka. He has always been interested in the paranormal, and in his video he talks a little about the history of the crystal skull. If you saw Indiana Jones : Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, you have some sort of idea. Some have said it was carved, some say its from another life form. Dan Akroyd, in partnership with Diamond Estates Wines and Spirits Ltd. distributes this product. The vodka is made with Newfoundlands glacial pool waters and triple filter it through carbon to ensure its complete neutrality. Also, they triple filter the vodka through 500 million year old crystals known as herkimer diamonds. Its sounds like a pretty cool process. Ive seen it priced from $38.95 and up. Dan Akroyd is awesome, so I couldn’t resist sharing with all of you. Also incase you didn’t know, Dan is co-founder of the House of Blues and part owner of the Diamond Estates Wines and Sprits Ltd.
The Bag with Swag
The design and appearance gives it a unique swag…I LIKE IT…it spells M-I-S-T-Y, but is branded FENDI
