Always & Forever The Greatest Entertainer
July 8th, 2009
Yesterday was a day to remember. The remembrance for one of the most beloved entertainers took place. It was estimated that over 20,000 people gathered at the Staples Center and Nokia Theater to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson. According to the Huffington Post, more has been written and said about the life and death of Michael Jackson in the past two weeks than about the passing of any famous person in the past 25 years, including Princess Diana and President Ronald Reagan. And those two names represented the ultimate level of fame and power.
Cashmere intern Zachery Gries was given the opportunity to attend the remembrance and this is what he expereiened from his point of view…
Waking up at 5:00 A.M ended up being the best idea my cousin, Krissy, and I have ever had. We got to the Nokia Theatre two hours early and watched the news stations begin coverage of one of the most memorable moments of the year and we stood in the first row behind the blockades. When we finally got into the theatre, we were given a small book filled with pictures and notes from Michael and his close friends and family members. The service was filled with heartbreaking speeches and invigorating performances from Jermaine Jackson, Usher, Mariah Carey, and others. The atmosphere at the event was filled with support for one of the entertainment industry’s greatest performers. Not a single negative comment was shared which is remarkable considering the scandals surrounding the singer.
When the celebration was over, Janet Jackson and two other family members came on stage to thank those in attendance and we walked out of the building with both ecstatic and teary eyed fans. We were also interviewed by two interns for Ryan Seacrest’s blog website RyanSeacrest.com. Throughout the day, Krissy and I felt a medley of emotions. Krissy cried as Michael’s daughter princess spoke of her love for her father and I twitched with excitement as we rode the bus downtown. All in all, yesterday was one of the most emotional days that I have ever experienced. I left in awe at the power and support offered by Michael’s fans and a new respect for what many consider to be the greatest entertainer ever.
