Tomorrow , Sept. 29th at one of  Los Angeles’ public school, Operation HOPE will launch a powerful education initiative, 5 Million Kids, a national campaign to re-brand education as “Make Smart Cool and Sexy”.  The launch event will be the official kick-off to the national campaign rollout over the next year and a day filled with education, workshops and inspiration. Our goal of the initiative is change how youth look at education and teach them to understand the language of money in order to achieve lifetime success.

The important initiative has enlisted support from the entertainment community, including music icon, Quincy Jones, producer and filmmaker as the 5MK National Co-Chair, Quincy “QD3″ Jones as the 5MK National Co-Chair and actor and singer Tyrese Gibson, to kick-off the campaign.  The day will be hosted by KDAY’s Devi Devi and there will also be additional celebrities, key educational constituents, Association of Independent Music Publishers members and community stakeholders in attendance.  So if you’re in the area, please stop by and show your support or go to www.http://www.5millionkids.org/

The Circus comes to LA!

When was the last time you’ve been to a circus? Well, for the ladies at Cashmere, we can definitely count Britney Spears Circus Tour in LA last night as one great circus we’ve all attended. Trying to figure what was more shockingly exciting…Britney Spears bringing her sexy back or the amazing and sectored production that was put together? Either way, the intrigue and anxiety tapped away at us through the opening acts of Jordin Sparks and Kristinia DeBarge.

As we set in VIP Premier seating, we were able to truly capture the moment. From the stage floor to the rooftop of the Staples Center, fans stood, screamed Britney’s name and sung their favorite tunes. Britney’s set included the themes such as Circus, House of Fun, Freakshow/Peepshow, Electro Circ and Encore performance. She included the Bollywood theme, the masculine feminine theme Britney is noted for and the hip-hop/pop dances moves that made us understand the impact Michael Jackson had on ALL THINGS pop and ALL THINGS that contribute to the multi-tiered elements of being an artist.

What’s some of your favorite Britney tunes? Toxic, Womanizer, Freakshow, Me Against the Music or Circus? It was all consumed in her hour and a half stage performance and set reinventions. For the rest of her American dates, and the Australian leg of her tour, please visit http://www.britneyspears.com/tour/

Enjoy the photos we were able to capture!

Cashmere on hand for Kobe V. Carmelo 2.0

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Last Friday, Cashmere Agency was on hand for the virtual showdown between NBA Ballers Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony. Showcasing the next installment of the top basketball video game, NBA 2K10, the exclusive head-to-head preview was the main attraction at the Capitol City Sports bar in Hollywood.

Promoting Versus Sport, 2K Games and Microsoft, the event was heavily attended with Lakers teammate Josh Powell, Indiana Pacers point guard Earl Watson along with hip-hop luminary Dr. Dre with local CBS sports anchor Jim Hill providing television coverage. Watching Kobe and ‘Melo go at it in the virtual world will only serve to wet the appetite for another match-up of the two mega B-Ball stars in the upcoming season. Naturally, one wonders how their basketball abilities translate into the gaming. Check out some of the photos from the event below!

Cashmere Agency Gets Love From Billboard Magazine!

We here at Cashmere have long been fans of the wild and crazy antics of the WuTang Clan, so when the homie Chace Infinite first hooked us up with reps from Raekwon’s Ice H20 Entertainment and told us that there was the sequel to OB4CL on the horizon, we jumped at the opportunity.

Our first trip to Rae’s mini mansion yielded all the excitement and new lingo that one would imagine.  From there we were OFF!!!

Raekwon immediately proved to us that he understood the importance of online viral marketing.  Any idea, no matter how outside the box it may have seemed, Rae and his team – Don, Mel and Tareef anxiously and immediately executed on.

Video after video, song after song leak, contest after contest, tweet after tweet, Raekwon displayed his willingness to commit himself 100% to the strategy that he built along with Cashmere Agency, and it worked!!!

Nearly a year later, OB4CL PT. II is the most critically acclaimed release of 2009 and Raekwon has become a staple on nearly every hip-hop blog!  More over, the album’s release on September 8th found the #1 spot on the iTunes album sales charts. A position it wouldn’t relinquish for four days. Raekwon’s OB4CL PT. II also landed him #4 on Billboard’s POP charts and what is even more amazing is the fact that 21% of the first-week total for OB4CL PT. II came from digital sales, compared with 17% for Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

This stands as a testament to the hard work that was put in both by Cashmere and Ice H20 online.  Now we salute the Chef and are thrilled to be a part of Team Chef and the OB4CL PT. II’s success!  Make sure to check out the article Billboard.com has published regarding Raekwon’s success and Cashmere’s efforts to help the campaign! Click (HERE)

Get involved!

Cashmere is all about doing good in the community, so we thought today’s entry would focus on organizations who are helping out their neighborhoods.  Besides, round here, we’re all about the kids.  With that being said, we’d like to spotlight some national statistics and one organization in particular, the Harlem Children’s Zone.

-33% chance that a black boy born in 2001 will go to prison
-60% of black men in their 30’s who dropped out of high school have spent time in prison
-7% of black eigth graders perform at grade level in math
-More than 13 million children are living in poverty in the US today

Harlem Children’s Zone is a community-based organization, offering education, social-service and community-building programs to children and families in the central Harlem area since 1970.

Results have shown that:
-100 % of students in the Harlem Gems pre-K program were found to be school-ready.
-81% of Baby College parents improved the frequency of reading to their children.
-$4.8 million dollars were returned to 2,935 Harlem residents as a result of HCZ’s free tax-prep service
-10,883 youth were served by HCZ in 2008

Scratch gets publicity in USA Today

Scratch Logo

Hip-Hop is making some serious moves into gaming –again! A couple years ago hip-hop/gangsta themed games were the most sought after gaming genre after the platinum plus selling success of GTA: San Andreas. However, soon after the crossover of hip-hop gaming bubble popped, it looks like hip-hop gaming is staging a comeback with a number of rhythm-based, musical games led by turntable controller based Scratch.

Unlike the last rise of hip-hop in gaming, the mainstream media is stepping up and paying attention. Check out the USA Today article on Scratch and other hip-hop influenced games making their way to consoles and mobile phones in a matter of months.

A big Cashmere shout out goes to the good folks at Freshjive. Upon getting some clothes for the new Raekwon “Catalina” music video, our office was also surprised with some free gear. Freshjive, a division underneath General Pants Co. has been around since 1989, specializing in street/skate wear. Take a look at some of their Summer-line designs and some of the actual garments we were graced with ourselves.
