Entertainment, Events, MusicArtists: Keep Your Social Networking Game Up!!!
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
Over the weekend, one of Cashmere’s own was introduced to two new artists. Immediately, our intern, Saqqara, went to her social networking profile to share her excitement. Not only did she update her Facebook and MySpace status, but took the extra to find both of the artists, Aaron Fresh and Big Sean, on Twitter.
Even though she knew most artists had their social sites run by personnel, it still gave her a sense of connection. The importance of this connection coupled, with liking of their music, will probably turn her into a paying consumer.
With the current financial state of the music industry, its increasingly becoming important for artists to make this connection with their fans. Marketing and promotion makes a humongous impact on the sales of an artist, but it is the fan that is spending their hard earned money. As long as artist’s continue to use their social sites to truly connect with their consumers and consistently put out a good product, then these artists should be able to establish a solid fan base that will grow with them in their careers.
Cashmere Event Recap: 2010 BET Awards
Monday, June 28th, 2010
The BET Awards celebrated their 10th anniversary this past Sunday night with a memorable ceremony from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium. Many of the music industry’s biggest stars were on hand for the event: Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Drake, Usher, Eminem, T.I. Monica, among others.
Two of the night’s most talked about moments came courtesy of ’80s soul singer El Debarge, who performed the first single from his upcoming album, “Second Chance,” plus a medley of his hits “I Like It,” “Rhythm of the Night,” and “All This Love, and Chris Brown who came back to pay tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
The show ended paying homage to another ’80s pop icon, Prince. Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys, Trey Songz, and Patti Labelle performed a number of his song, before Prince himself took to the stage to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award.
Check out some of the pictures and video below from last night’s star studded event, including Chris Brown’s moving tribute to the King of Pop.

Cashmere World Cup Recap: Ain’t Mad at the Upsets
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
The World Cup is well underway and for the passed two weeks Cashmere has been resisting that snooze button to watch all the action. Since the beginning of the tournament, the echoes of the South African vuvuzelas have been loud around the office from the live streaming coverage provided by ESPN 360. We’ve been on top of every game, and after 36 matches, it’s safe to say our bracket is ruined. But which nation is responsible for this?
At first glance, we look directly at you France. With a rich World Cup tradition, including a home court win in 1998 and one of the most talented squads in the world, France was our shoe in to advance in their group. And where did they end up? Dead last and on the first plane back to Paris. And this hasn’t been the first surprise this World Cup. The returning champions from Italy are on the ropes and struggling to keep their World Cup dreams alive, as is soccer powerhouse England. Even FIFA’s top choice, the mighty Spanish squad, is having trouble after their loss to dark horse Switzerland.
And the Americans, Where do the Americans stand in all this? After their draw with England, one of the biggest matches of the tournament thus far, the American squad was heartbroken by a poor call by the head referee in their game against Slovenia, causing a final draw. The Americans need a win tomorrow to solidify their World Cup chances, and more importantly, need an England loss. We here at Cashmere will be reppin’ our red, white, and blue stripes tomorrow for the big game and hope you do the same.
From South Africa to the streets of Inglewood, check back with us as we drop more World Cup talk as the tournament rolls on. For all you stuck in the office, dreaming of chanting in those stands for your team, remember to check out ESPN 360 and stream all the games live.
Below find some of our favorite and least favorite scenes from the tournament thus far:
WHY THE FRENCH LOST!
Here is French coach Raymond Domenech refusing to shake the hand of South African coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after France’s defeat this morning. This classless act by the manager could be one reason why his players lost faith in him as the head of their squad.
USA BARELY SQUEEZES PASSED ENGLISH KEEPER
It wasn’t the prettiest goal, but the US team will take it.
Snoop Dogg Shows True Blood Some Love!
Monday, June 21st, 2010
After last night’s new episode of True Blood, HBO aired a music video inspired by its vampire series from one of its biggest fans, Snoop Dogg.
As a tribute to one of his fave shows, “Oh Sookie” is pretty clever. With five Sookie background dancers, cloves of garlic hanging from his car’s rear view mirror, all the while Snoop is doin’ his thang in front of Merlotte’s Diner.
Is this the first step towards the an actual Snoop? Only time will tell, but hip-hop and True Blood fans may not have to wait much longer for a cameo by the Boss Dogg on the show.
If you haven’t done so already, check out the hilarious ode to True Blood below. And don’t forget, True Blood airs Sundays 9pm EST/PST all summer, only on HBO!
