Levi’s Launches “Shape What’s To Come”

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Levi’s denim brand is no stranger to innovative marketing campaigns. From their recent “We Are All Workers” campaign to their denim workshops, Levi’s has now launched their own social networking website geared towards women.

ShapeWhatsToCome.com is an online community for all women to share their inspirational stories and connect with other fabulous women.

“Young women are presented with a complex web of opportunities of which are theirs for the taking. And while the possibilities and uncertainties that come with so many options can be daunting, we are going forth. We simply need a wider range of unconventional guidance and direction to help weave together our many interests and ambitions,” says Levi’s.

“This is why we created Shape What’s to Come – an online community based around shared interests and passions, regardless of age or location. It’s a place where we can seek perspective and support from women like ourselves…and maybe not like ourselves.”

“We think of it as mentorship, reimagined, where each of us can both inspire and be inspired. It’s a place to negotiate our complex choices and to savor ideas from around the globe. It can be as simple as sharing goals and getting a dose of inspiration, or it can turn into actual connections: the spark of an opportunity, the launch of a career, or the beginning of a great adventure.”

Free Download: No I.D., Common, Lupe, Jennifer Hudson

Free Track Produced by No I.D. and Featuring Common, Jennifer Hudson, and Lupe Fiasco Available at REPLAYtheSeries.com

“We Can Do it Now” inspired by Season III of REPLAY

10.26.2010–     Iconic artists and Chicago natives Common, Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson, and No I.D. recently collaborated to record “We Can Do It Now,” an ode to their hometown in celebration of the famed series, REPLAY.

For a limited time, “We Can Do It Now” is available as a free download at REPLAYtheSeries.com.

Gatorade created REPLAY to restage classic games that ended in controversy – offering athletes a second chance for redemption some 10-15 years later. Gatorade reunites the original teammates and provides them with an 8-week training and nutrition program so they can get back in peak shape and replay their game to settle the score once and for all.

Season III of REPLAY features two South Side Chicago high school basketball teams, the Bloom Township Trojans and the Brother Rice Crusaders. The two teams competed this fall to settle their 2000 super sectional game that decided who would go “downstate” to the Elite 8 and who would go home. The original game ended with a controversial call regarding the game clock, shrouding the final shot in controversy for a decade. A documentary sharing the journey of these athletes and their REPLAY game will premiere November 7 on Fox Sports Net (check local listings).

“We Can Do It Now” can be downloaded for free at www.replaytheseries.com.

TIME MAGAZINE’S ALL-TIME 100 GREATEST GADGETS

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

TIME Magazine has just released their latest ALL-TIME 100 list and this time

the topic is: gadgets from 1923 to the present.  According to TIME technology editor Peter Ha, “picking humanity’s 100 greatest gadgets is no easy task. If we were starting from the beginning of humanity itself, the list would actually be a lot easier to compile: the wheel, the lever, the telescope, the syringe, movable type – the roster practically writes itself.”  So instead they decided to start from 1923, the year TIME started publishing.

The gadgets are grouped into six different categories:

The gadgets range from items that shaped our childhoods like the Sony Walkman and Nintendo Game Boy items to items we now use on a daily basis like the iPod and Bluetooth headset.  The list even includes gadgets we probably don’t even think about, such as the ballpoint pen, credit card, alkaline battery, and Velcro.  One interesting thing to note is the amount of Apple, Sony, and Motorola products on the list. Were those three companies that influential in shaping the world we live in today?

There’s one catch to the list: the gadgets are in no particular order so it’s up to YOU to choose the #1 gadget. Check out the link here. What do you think the #1 gadget since 1923 is?  Is there anything you think TIME Magazine missed? (Doing a quick survey around the Cashmere office, the VCR, Microwave Oven, and DVD player are glaring omissions.)

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

IGNITE 2010: From the Blogs to the Blocks was the premier event during BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend in Atlanta, GA.  The League of Young Voters Education Fund along with the official media partner, Vibe, hosted a first of its kind gathering with celebrities, tastemakers and media on topics of civic engagement and the mid-term elections. The discussions and workshop were thought provoking but without these special people on the 1’s and 2’s throughout the evening, IGNITE 2010 wouldn’t have been as successful as it was.  A pair of the Arsonist DJs along with DJ Jamad and DJ Baby Yu set the tone for the no holds barred panel discussion and accompanied the spectacular performances by the music industry’s star players, So So Def recording artist Dondria and the world’s fastest rapper Twista.

Take a seat and read up on our supportive rock star DJs!

DJ Jamad

With their music revealing an essence of their soul, every artist tells a story. Capturing this essence on the beat and translating that into a feeling thru mixology, Jamad is a reflection of the music he enjoys. From his long standing weekly radio show, the “Afromentals Mixshow”, on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Hip Hop Nation (Sirius 40/XM 67) to his Afromentals Mixtape Series…DJ Jamad’s personal mission is to pass the baton from past to future generations of artists in hopes that they learn to appreciate the foundation of their music. It’s important to Jamad to maintain the connection with music history while ensuring that it continues to evolve. Blending old with new is what DJ Jamad does best, mixing classic and modern R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop. What sets Jamad apart from other DJ’s is his creative ideology and persistence to create a sound with longevity and without compromise.  Keep your musical ear tuned to DJ Jamad through his Afromentals Mixshow entitled “FRO POWAH Hour”, streaming weekly from 8pm-9pm EST on Frolab.com, along with his Afromentals Mixtape Series.
