Every year, the American Black Film Festival is held in Miami, FL to highlight African American film and television. Actors, writers and directors alike are acknowledged for their role in the space. Popular shows such as Queen Sugar and Insecure premiered the upcoming episodes of their new seasons – Queen Sugar premiered the first episode of S2 on June 20th, while Insecure is set to premiere S2 on July 23rd.
Also in attendance were some of the new series piloting this summer – Claws from TNT (6.11), and John Singleton’s Snowfall from FX (7.5).
Several feature films and documentaries were in attendance, with many of their casts sitting on panels throughout the weekend. Some of these films included Girls Trip, the recently released All Eyez On Me, Biography’s “Biggie: The Notorious B.I.G.” (9.4), and HBO’s “Defiant Ones” (7.9).
There were several spotlights on the shift in tide of programming, with panels including some of televisions top stations, such as BET and Turner Broadcasting. We’re excited for what’s to come in the realm of Black Entertainment, and seeing people of color in all aspects on the big and small screens!
