Last night a few of the Cashmere team members (Rona, Brandon & Jasmin) went downtown to check out The General Store Pop-Up with featured art from Edition One Hundred, Augustine KOFIE and Miles Regis.  Edition One Hundred was responsible for some great photographs and KOFIE had some interesting illustrations.  Miles Regis had an array of artworks using different painting techniques and also had iPad and laptop skins available with his work on it.  We were there to see the video installation from the Forecast TV, a project from our fashion forward friend Teron Stevenson.  The Forecast TV is a fashion based outlet focused on being ahead of the fashion curves and “forecasting” the next trends.  More photos are inside the post.

Made a trip down to Ikea in Costa Mesa to pick up some desks for the office and remembered that my parents told me about a cool place to grub in Irvine. The illest thing was the bakery. They had a line and someone regulatin’ at the door like it was the hottest club in Hollywood! – Kelly, @Kwoocash

Starting a new tradition for 2012…Every first Saturday of the month, Annie, Grace and I will have an international themed dinner, “Mixed Bites”, that focuses on different cultural foods and tastes.  Kicking off the new year, I hosted our first dinner with an Italian menu, complete with Capellini pasta, oven roasted butternut squash and broccoli and Pinot Noir to wash it all down. – Kristen, @TambyBear

Los Angeles is such an incredible city that envelopes every aspect a vibrant city of such magnitude could possess, from the exciting nightlife to a budding art and food scene.  LA is definitely a cultural powerhouse with a never-ending plethora of events and places to check out.  However, for those with absolutely no money to go anywhere like myself, I made a reservation at my favorite local spot named “Cafe A-Ron,” aka “The Chocolate Bar”.  Located in the bustling area known as my living room, this favorite little dive offers everything from cable TV, moderately priced drinks, and a food menu that boasts three types of Hot Pockets.  The service can be considered lacking at best, but with such competitive prices and lively entertainment and company, you should definitely give Cafe A-Ron a chance.  If anything you can be all trendy and tell all your friends you knew about it first, before it got all commercial and sold out. – Aron, @womenbeshoppen1

My weekend was degrading. In a funny way though. I hung out with the famous comic out of Australia (even though he lives here) Eddie Ifft. He decided to take a video of me before we went surfing and put it on his podcasts’ youtube page. It’s one of the top podcasts in the world and now I’m famous for being out of shape. Take a look

I did plenty of eating this weekend.  Friday evening I convinced a friend to cook chicken enchiladas for my Stampede compadres (Teff, KiKi & Meko).  They helped convince as well.  Saturday I ran a few errands but found time to stop by Bayou Grill (which I used to frequent when we were in our old office) to pick up some jambalaya and gumbo.  Sunday I was working but took a break to check out Oo-Kook in Koreatown with some good friends and my younger brother.  All you can eat Korean BBQ and what seemed like bottomless bottles of Soju.  All in all a good weekend with food, family and friends. – Brandon, @Eazee

I started the weekend by taking my friends out to Roscoes. It was their first time there.  We also got our cars washed…I introduced them to Tender Greens in Culver City as well.  We ended the weekend by playing with their new cat. – Ashten, @whoopthis

If you have seen images of streets in L.A., whether in real life, in movies, or on pictures – chances are, you have seen an array of murals in these images. And whether you like them or not (just like you may or may not like some of L.A.’s architecture), the fact is: they are part of the city. They are the sights that make L.A. what it is – a city that is famous for entertainment, arts, liberty, and progressiveness.

Murals are an artistic expression of the city itself, and visual treats provided by talented artists for the public to enjoy for free. Ironically, the city has spent a fortune in an effort to get these pieces of art removed – even if the building owners permitted them!

If you agree that there are more important issues that need local funding, join artist SABER in his petition to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the L.A. City Attorney’s office to end the strict policies against public art in L.A. here.

As a follow up to the original LA Vs. WAR show held in April 2008, the PEACE Photo Project is collaborating again with LA Vs. WAR II to bring another revolutionary three-day experiential art exhibition and cultural event to Los Angeles. LA Vs. War II: Art for Peace in the Hope Era returns from September 9th through the  11th, commemorating the ten-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a massive group art exhibition in Downtown Los Angeles at the Vortex Philanthropic Space. Artists from L.A. and beyond will examine the questions: After 10 years of the global war on terror, where do we now stand as a nation? Is the world a safer place? Where does the Peace movement go from here?

The PEACE Photo Project is the brainchild of Los Angeles artist, Azul 213, which is the first human photo petition to bring awareness to peace.  All walks of life have participated in this project, including Los Angeles native and worldwide acclaimed hip-hop artist, MURS. He was first photographed for the PEACE Photo Project in October 2009 and is a strong advocate of Los Angeles and international PEACE.

It was dope to see so many people all together in one spot, enjoying all aspects of the hip hop culture!

Then, the Cashmere crew took the short trip from Hollywood to Downtown LA for the Mad Decent Block Party.  The event was filled with good food, drinks, and dope musical performances.  Mad Decent definitely knows how to throw a party!

Next stop was Battle of the Year US prelims at Avalon in Hollywood on Saturday.  Battle of the Year is one of the biggest BBOY competitions in the world, showcasing some of the top talent from the US and abroad.

On Sunday, the Cashmere fam hit one of their favorite spots in LA, the Do-Over, to continue the fun-filled weekend.  We caught some great DJ sets, and chilled alongside one of the best DJ’s and producers in the game, DJ Premier.  The Do-Over was packed all day, as you never know who is going to hop on the decks!

Our weekend was packed with music, art, dancing, and good friends.  So LA… what’s going on this weekend?

The Known Gallery is one of the most dynamic and eclectic art galleries in the LA area.  Home to some of the most famous street artists in the game, the gallery has been known (no pun intended) to host some pretty inspiring exhibitions.  This weekend, Revok, Roid, and Rime members of the famed Seventh Letter crew will be hosting an exhibit called “Perseverance”.
