#ThrowbackThursday [5.10.2012]

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

With the Floyd Mayweather fight taking place last weekend, there was plenty of talk about the “Money Team,” including their newest member Justin Bieber. Soon after, pictures surfaced of Floyd with Justin, Lil Wayne and long-time friend, 50 Cent. Many jokingly called them the “New Money Team.”

Conversations about this around the office led to discussions about 50 Cent’s reintroduction to the music game, via Eminem, in 2003 and how he had the least radio-friendly song (Wanksta) in rotation on pretty much every radio station in the U.S. Also back in 2003, Lil Wayne was slowly becoming the superstar artist he is now. So today we bring you a couple videos from two members of Floyd Mayweather’s “superstar circle” before they became the hip-hop heavyweights they are now. Hit the jump to see the videos.

Que Buena 105.5/94.3 FM Goes All Out for Cinco de Mayo Festival!

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Cinco de Mayo is probably the most celebrated holiday that people understand the least. What’s it all about? How is it celebrated? What does it mean to Mexicans?

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day! It’s the Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1852. In 1861, France sent a massive army to invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect on war debts. The French army was much larger, better trained and better equipped than the Mexicans, who struggling to defend the road to Mexico City. The battle rolled through Mexico until it reached Puebla where the Mexicans took a valiant stand and, against all logic, secured a huge victory. Today, this euphoric and unlikely victory is celebrated every fifth of May in Mexico and in different parts of the United States.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Que Buena 105.5./94.3 FM Cinco de Mayo Festival, which is without a doubt the biggest event for Cinco de Mayo in LA. The festival is held every year at Whittier Narrows Regional Park in South El Monte, with more than 100,000 Angelinos in attendance each year. The festival features the most talented/popular Mexican musicians, vendors, activities, big-name sponsors and entertainment for the entire family. Not to mention it’s FREE!

I must say, nobody does Cinco de Mayo better than Que Buena LA! – Selene (@ms_sele, Twitter & Instagram)
