Last night, we checked out the Brisk Bodega event hosted by Just Blaze.  It was an art experience in celebration of the 3D re-release of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace. The event included live music from Just Blaze and DJ Skee, art display, open bar, food truck and good people! The Brisk Bodega will be open to the public today Friday, February 3, 2012, from 3:00-11:00 p.m. (722 N Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90012). This weekend, I came across this amazing project called the Portable Parks IV Project – past, present, future = A Living Library (“The Flower Unfolding”) in the center of Santa Monica Place.  Inspired by Bonnie Clark, who created installations and interventions that brought the experience of nature into unexpected locations in the early-1970s, this project will temporarily transform the Santa Monica Place Center Plaza into a garden setting.  Now through February 5th, the project will aim to increase awareness of environmental sustainability and unveiling different aspects of consumer culture to the diverse visitors to Santa Monica Place.

Lead artist, Bonnie Sherk has designed “The Flower Unfolding”, a large-scale, multi-sensory, living sculpture; a garden with unfurling petals, filled with organic fruits, flowers, vegetables and herbs that the public can stroll through or view from above.  For more information, visit SantaMonicaPlace.com or help out the project via KickStarter.com – Kristen, @TambyBear

I bought a new camera recently to take some pictures of type and signage in LA for inspiration. This weekend I decided to finally shoot some pictures when I realized I don’t know how to use the camera. So naturally, I  forced Colin to teach me how to use it.  He basically changed every auto setting to manual and went to surf. I put the auto settings back on as soon as he left.

On Sunday, I DJ’ed and performed at one of the biggest hip hop dance competitions on the west coast called VIBE.  It was a dope event with over 4000 people in attendance and some of the best dancers in the world sharing the stage. – Kyle, @kyledineen

This weekend is exactly what I needed. I’ve been very busy lately and this is the first weekend I’ve really been able to relax in about 2-3 months. On Saturday, I woke up around noon, watched about 5 episodes of Scrubs and a solid 6 or 7 episodes of Arrested Development on my amazing Netflix online account. As I rolled out of bed at 3:30, Grace Park and I went to El Porto. I gave a few camera tips to Grace who was trying out her new camera and then went for a surf. I haven’t surfed in a few weeks, so it felt great to be in the water. After that I got sushi for dinner, bought a half gallon of rainbow sorbet, ate a half gallon of rainbow sorbet, and then watched the original Diehard staring Bruce Willis. Then I fell asleep.

On Sunday I woke up around noon, hung up some art I made, installed a new door handle and then watched another 10 episodes of Scrubs and finally saw Hot Tub Time Machine.

Had a chill weekend with my friend, as she got her first Curry House experience. She hated it! After a failed attempt at getting a massage (the receptionist was rude) we headed to Nordstrom Rack and picked up a new pair of kicks for me. – Anthony, @antpooh

This weekend started with my roommate and I constructing a fort in our living room thinking it would be a fun way to waste time and relive a part of our childhood.   It was such a success that word spread of our magnificent living room fort from Culver City all the way to Skid Row.  People of all walks of life came by the apartment to see if for themselves and take pictures.  We had it all: money, power and respect but we let it get to our heads.  We couldn’t take the sudden fame and I eventually blew all the money on expensive Chinchilla pajamas and a fort made entirely out of endangered Norwegian Humpback Whale bones.  It got all repossessed and I was destitute. I ended up renting out some space in living room for homeless gentleman to start their trash can fires and taped them bum fighting.  The proceeds from my bum fight series allowed me to get back on my feet and I made up with my roommate.  We promised ourselves never to let success go to our heads like that again, as well as never build another fort ever again.  The End. – Aron, @womenbeshopping

The weekend is my favorite time to try new restaurants.  I enjoy spending my Saturday nights at a new environment, trying new food (preferably sushi), with good friends.  This weekend, we decided to try out Jinpachi, a popular sushi restaurant in W. Hollywood.  The sushi was phenomenal.  The chef put so much detail into everything he sent out, every bite tasted perfect. – Hila, @Hilala11

This weekend, went to Din Tai Fung in Arcadia for their world famous xiao long bao (soup dumplings). The wait is usually an hour with folks coming from all over and from various backgrounds. The only US location, DTF is originally from Taiwan. Went to the Getty Villa and grubbed at Neptune’s Net on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. – Joey, @JoeyFurutani

This weekend was PACKED with enough art, music and culture to keep me inspired for weeks! Friday I checked out a house party on the top of Mount Washington, filled with amazing touring musicians. The night was filled with live performances and impromptu jam sessions. Saturday I made it out to LACMA for the Rodarte exhibit and the PST exhibit California Design, 1930 – 1965: “Living In A Modern Way” showcasing and celebrating the epic impact those decades provided to today’s American culture and design. Sunday, I stopped by Larchmont’s farmer’s market, Le Petit Hotel’s weekly Sunday performance and the Lil Death party at the One Eyed Gypsy. – Mimi, @MimiJakes

As cross branding becomes more and more prevalent I really expect to see more partnerships between media outlets and artists.  It’s not a new idea but I feel it’s becoming more “in the open”.  If things aren’t forced I think we’ll see more and more cool visuals.  With that in mind I really like what VICE & ASAP Rocky did with ASAP’s new video.  I’ve watched it at least once a day since it dropped on Monday. – Brandon, @Eazee

The crowd loved YG‘s the bass heavy thumps from LA’s growing “Ratchet Music” movement. And the special performance from Nipsey Hussle made it an official West Coast party. This weekend I had the opportunity to link back up with some old friends from Poe Boy Entertainment based out of Miami.  I got my start with these guys, filming behind the scenes videos for Flo Rida, Brisco, and Billy Blue amongst a few others.  When I got the call from E-Class to come meet up with them in Vegas to film Flo rip it up for a few surprise performances, I absolutely could not say no.  I also was invited to kick it with the the crew, and shot some of their other shenanigans, as well as an impromptu video shoot in and around Vegas, ala DIddy’s “Ciroc Boys” video showcasing the whole Poe Boy family.  Not a bad way to spend the weekend. – Aron, @womenbeshopping

This weekend was a very important one including many MLK celebrations and community service. My highlight was attending the 27th Annual Commemorative Concert in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It featured guest artist, Rebecca Eaddy, a Soprano opera singer who has finished first place in a number of 2011 vocal competitions. The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles was also a huge component of the event. Their credits include performing for Oprah Winfrey, First Lady Michelle Obama and the unveiling and dedication of the MLK memorial in DC. – Misty, @LuvlyIzMe

I just purchased the “Director’s Series” compilation DVD box set that features some of the ’90s most visionary music video directors.  Michele Gondry, Spike Jonze, Mark Romanek, and Chris Cunningham’s work are featured in this set that showcases four visual iconoclasts who broke down barriers and lifted the music video into an art form.  I wanted to showcase Chris Cunningham‘s work in particular.  His videos themes always dealt with realities slightly altered to fit into a dark, twisted uber-reality that pushed the envelope in the latest digital technology to leave you feeling uncomfortable and transfixed all at the same time.  He directed videos from such varied artists from Madonna and Aphex Twin, to Bjork and Portishead.  I promise you have not seen anything like this. – Aron, @womenbeshoppen1

Last night a few of the Cashmere team members (Rona, Brandon & Jasmin) went downtown to check out The General Store Pop-Up with featured art from Edition One Hundred, Augustine KOFIE and Miles Regis.  Edition One Hundred was responsible for some great photographs and KOFIE had some interesting illustrations.  Miles Regis had an array of artworks using different painting techniques and also had iPad and laptop skins available with his work on it.  We were there to see the video installation from the Forecast TV, a project from our fashion forward friend Teron Stevenson.  The Forecast TV is a fashion based outlet focused on being ahead of the fashion curves and “forecasting” the next trends.  More photos are inside the post.

Made a trip down to Ikea in Costa Mesa to pick up some desks for the office and remembered that my parents told me about a cool place to grub in Irvine. The illest thing was the bakery. They had a line and someone regulatin’ at the door like it was the hottest club in Hollywood! – Kelly, @Kwoocash

Starting a new tradition for 2012…Every first Saturday of the month, Annie, Grace and I will have an international themed dinner, “Mixed Bites”, that focuses on different cultural foods and tastes.  Kicking off the new year, I hosted our first dinner with an Italian menu, complete with Capellini pasta, oven roasted butternut squash and broccoli and Pinot Noir to wash it all down. – Kristen, @TambyBear

Los Angeles is such an incredible city that envelopes every aspect a vibrant city of such magnitude could possess, from the exciting nightlife to a budding art and food scene.  LA is definitely a cultural powerhouse with a never-ending plethora of events and places to check out.  However, for those with absolutely no money to go anywhere like myself, I made a reservation at my favorite local spot named “Cafe A-Ron,” aka “The Chocolate Bar”.  Located in the bustling area known as my living room, this favorite little dive offers everything from cable TV, moderately priced drinks, and a food menu that boasts three types of Hot Pockets.  The service can be considered lacking at best, but with such competitive prices and lively entertainment and company, you should definitely give Cafe A-Ron a chance.  If anything you can be all trendy and tell all your friends you knew about it first, before it got all commercial and sold out. – Aron, @womenbeshoppen1

My weekend was degrading. In a funny way though. I hung out with the famous comic out of Australia (even though he lives here) Eddie Ifft. He decided to take a video of me before we went surfing and put it on his podcasts’ youtube page. It’s one of the top podcasts in the world and now I’m famous for being out of shape. Take a look

I did plenty of eating this weekend.  Friday evening I convinced a friend to cook chicken enchiladas for my Stampede compadres (Teff, KiKi & Meko).  They helped convince as well.  Saturday I ran a few errands but found time to stop by Bayou Grill (which I used to frequent when we were in our old office) to pick up some jambalaya and gumbo.  Sunday I was working but took a break to check out Oo-Kook in Koreatown with some good friends and my younger brother.  All you can eat Korean BBQ and what seemed like bottomless bottles of Soju.  All in all a good weekend with food, family and friends. – Brandon, @Eazee

I started the weekend by taking my friends out to Roscoes. It was their first time there.  We also got our cars washed…I introduced them to Tender Greens in Culver City as well.  We ended the weekend by playing with their new cat. – Ashten, @whoopthis
