#FavoritesFriday – Cuteness, Geekness, TV, Music, and Viral Frenzies
Friday, October 14th, 2011
Welcome to our very first #FavoritesFriday blog post! Check back every Friday to find out about our favorite staff stuff of the week!
Starting off with a TV throwback classic by @jameskoo:
“Well for this week, I’ve been marathon-ing ‘The Wonder Years’. I think this is THE BEST TV show from my childhood, and it is NOW available on Netflix with its original soundtrack intact, which is THE BEST 70′s rock soundtrack of any TV show bar none!”
@antpooh found our top pick for the geeks:
“I know everyone at the office was expecting something ‘Purple One’ related. Well surprise, my current favorite thing is my ComicZeal, tricked out iPad. Yes, the comic book geek in me is coming back. Last week I read all 89 issues of The Walking Dead to catch up with the series before Sunday’s premiere Now I’m onto reading all 60 issues of the awesome Y: The Last Man.”
In the meantime, our Lead Publicist @tambybear fell in love with a hairstyle she stumbled across on a Tumblr blog page:
“A classic hair style that will never go out of style…simple, classic and sexy!”
Speaking of @tambybear, she inspired @mercadorona to her favorite pick of the week:
“Thanks to our in-house @tambybear who put me on to one of my new faves @ZeeAvi, the Malaysian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and ukulele player. Would love to work with this artist! Find out more about her here: http://zeeavi.com/ghostbird/”
@HBendavid‘s favorite thing to do this week has been, “spending some quality time with my new puppy Leo!”
From one dog to the next, “White Dog” Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse, and Eminem caused a viral frenzy this week with their release of ‘Shady Records 2.0 Boys 2011 Cypher‘. From Royce da 5’9”‘s “Hi Rihanna” line trending worldwide on Twitter to our staff’s endless argument over whose verse was the best, this video landed on the top of both @fordryan‘s and @KostaElchev‘s favorites list this week.
“No matter what people say lyrics aren’t all of the way dead in hip-hop. Being a rapper and not being able to rap is the worst invention ever!”
-@fordryan

Another video clip that caught our attention and entertained us this week was found by our Publicity intern @itistimbo:
“This has been my favorite clip this week. Made me laugh out loud.”
Last but not least, we are hoping that @alleykat1110 will treat us to her favorite find this week!
“I found this recipe which was one of my favourite finds this week – Hershey’s Kisses + Nutter Butter acorns!”

Cashmere Tips: Things Every Graphic Design Student Should Know
Monday, April 25th, 2011
Today’s blog is brought to you by Cashmere’s own graphic artist specialist Grace:
As a graduate of a design school, there are many things I learned but honestly, there are more things that I regret. I regret not diving more in-depth into web design, I regret not doing more experimental work, I regret not setting up my website as soon as I made my first motion graphics. Nobody at school, no alumni, no friend was giving any direction or telling me I was doing this wrong. Fast forward five years and I came across an article that pretty much does what my heaps of student loans could not do: point design students in the right direction.
This list was put together by Jamie Wieck, with comments below of designers adding some more insight, agreeing and debating which one’s are helpful. Each tip is accompanied by whimsical stick figures and followed by the hashtag, #the50. People are encouraged to make their own tips and tweet it.
Here are some tips that I personally loved:
You don’t have to agree with all of them, nor take the advice, but every designer should read through these. You can see the whole list at subtraction.com.

Getting Interactive With Consumers
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
It’s hard to come up with new and innovative ways to marketing and/or advertise your product. Most marketers have been searching for new ideas for campaigns and have fallen short. But companies like Doritos and GE/Popular Science are making history.
According to Trend Central, Augmented Reality (or AR) has exploded onto the marketing scene in recent weeks. In the simplest terms, AR combines real time images with virtual ones, to create entirely new 3D computer-generated graphics often with parts taht the consumer can control. And Popular Science and Doritos are the first companies to embrace this new way of advertising/marketing…
Popular Science Windmills

Popular Science’s AR-generated windmill cover is sure to get heads spinning. When readers hold the cover of this month’s issue up to a webcam, the computer receives a signal which then triggers a 3D scene of windmills over the actual cover – the blades even move when the reader blows on the computer’s microphone. The hope was to not only bowl over readers with articles on green technology, but to also give them an immediate visualization of the wheels in motion. Check out how the 3D cover works:
Doritos Late Night Bag Concerts

Specially marked bags of Doritos Late Night chips give snackers the power to see 3D performances by artists such as Blink-182 and Big Boi – in the palms of their hands. Once logged onto a dedicated Doritos Late Night Site the eager eater holds the specially printed symbol on the bag up to a webcam, which then initiates a virtual performance that looks as if it’s popping directly out of the package. By moving the bag’s position, the snacker can change from one artist to the other. The promotion is perfect if you are looking to combine your midnight munchies with a little extra entertainment, all without giving up your dependable laptop-in bed-combination.
Google Wave
Friday, May 29th, 2009

Never fails…leave it up to Google to create somethign so genius!! Since everyone is on this Twiiter, Facebook and social networking hype, Google decided to create a program that fuses e-mail, instant messaging, and content sharing into something resembling a cross between Twitter, Facebook, and your standard email platform.

Google Wave, which is expected to release later on this year, “combines conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication,” Lars Rasmussen, a software engineering manager at Google and the project’s co-founder. What is great about the Wave is it can be shared and it streams live! Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then the playback option lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.
