Getting Interactive With Consumers
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
It’s hard to come up with new and innovative ways to marketing and/or advertise your product. Most marketers have been searching for new ideas for campaigns and have fallen short. But companies like Doritos and GE/Popular Science are making history.
According to Trend Central, Augmented Reality (or AR) has exploded onto the marketing scene in recent weeks. In the simplest terms, AR combines real time images with virtual ones, to create entirely new 3D computer-generated graphics often with parts taht the consumer can control. And Popular Science and Doritos are the first companies to embrace this new way of advertising/marketing…
Popular Science Windmills

Popular Science’s AR-generated windmill cover is sure to get heads spinning. When readers hold the cover of this month’s issue up to a webcam, the computer receives a signal which then triggers a 3D scene of windmills over the actual cover – the blades even move when the reader blows on the computer’s microphone. The hope was to not only bowl over readers with articles on green technology, but to also give them an immediate visualization of the wheels in motion. Check out how the 3D cover works:
Doritos Late Night Bag Concerts

Specially marked bags of Doritos Late Night chips give snackers the power to see 3D performances by artists such as Blink-182 and Big Boi – in the palms of their hands. Once logged onto a dedicated Doritos Late Night Site the eager eater holds the specially printed symbol on the bag up to a webcam, which then initiates a virtual performance that looks as if it’s popping directly out of the package. By moving the bag’s position, the snacker can change from one artist to the other. The promotion is perfect if you are looking to combine your midnight munchies with a little extra entertainment, all without giving up your dependable laptop-in bed-combination.
Google Wave
Friday, May 29th, 2009

Never fails…leave it up to Google to create somethign so genius!! Since everyone is on this Twiiter, Facebook and social networking hype, Google decided to create a program that fuses e-mail, instant messaging, and content sharing into something resembling a cross between Twitter, Facebook, and your standard email platform.

Google Wave, which is expected to release later on this year, “combines conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication,” Lars Rasmussen, a software engineering manager at Google and the project’s co-founder. What is great about the Wave is it can be shared and it streams live! Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then the playback option lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

New Addition to the Autobots!
Friday, February 13th, 2009
That’s right Transformers fans, the Autobots have a new addition! Chevrolet is proud to announce that “Sideswipe” will be played by the new Corvette Stingray Concept. Announced and unveiled yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show, Sideswipe rolled out all crouched and silver, muscular and menacing, ready to pounce. Across his haunches is written “Stingray,” and indeed, a ray glides gently down his voluptuous flanks. The resemblance is unmistakable. The stiff, arching creases over the fenders standing proud over a bulging, muscular hood; the angular split windows curving down over a tapered tail scream “I’m a Corvette – from the future!”
It has been more than a decade since a new Corvette concept has appeared, and it will now be taking the world by storm.

This phone isn’t new to the market, but it is such a sharp looking phone that it was deemed blog worthy. The look of this phone definitely makes up for the weak functionality. The housing material, build quality, keys, assisted-opening blade mechanism, and sapphire crystal lens are all perfectly done, the display — while admittedly tiny — is nothing short of completely stunning. The only down side to this phone is the price tag.

SEMA 2008 Recap
Monday, November 10th, 2008
Each year the SEMA show provides an opportunity for the specialty automotive industry folks to come together, network, display and promote their products. It also provides a showcase for all sorts of new products to be presented for the first time. Due to the economy and the Green movement the SEMA show was a little different this year.
As always customization is king, not only in the looks department but also in the speed and performance areas. Companies in the auto industry have had to go back to the drawing board to create new items that make you “look cool” and stand out from everyone else that has the same car as you… This is easy when it comes to the lookin’ fly aspect, but it isn’t a quick process when enhancing the performance of a hybrid. Many companies introduced green performance alternatives for those thinking about souping up their Smart Car while staying eco friendly. Others stuck to the traditional foundations of speed… true horsepower. Their green alternative is replacing horsepower with man power, and switching out 4 wheels for 2. You want to go green? simple solution… ride a bike.
Overall this year’s show was a good one, expect to see a lot more color in the world of rides and rims… Check out some of my faves from the show.
Custom pin striped iPhone case – Hot Rods are known for some crazy pin striping. World Famous Von Hot Rod did up my case… one of a kind!

Weekly Cashmere Collection…what we are feelin’ at the moment

Rona’s new find of the week: Her Scurvy Paul Frank iPhone case!
I stumbled across some new Paul Frank iPhone cases while visiting the La Jolla Apple store. There were a variety of Paul Frank cases, both folio cases and silicone cases. I prefer the silicone cases…but couldn’t decide between the one with the bass guitar on it and the one with the Skurvy print…I ended up selecting the Skurvy one because it was more colorful.
The case fits on my iPhone quite snuggly, and seems to do a decent job of protecting it. I think the inCase silicone cases are probably a little better in terms of protecting the iPhone, just not as cute. The only downside of the Paul Frank iPhone case seems to be that it attracts a lot of dust and lint, maybe it just stands out more because it’s a black case.
Just another case to add to my collection…looks like I’m on my way to having a collection of cases to match my kicks.
Get it Mama….T is lovin these Kicks…
Adidas recently teamed up with one of the leading female fashion designers in street wear to produce one of the most original collaborations to drop in a long time; the first shoe in the Womens Remix Collection… the Pro MAMA.
MAMA creator Gabriella A. Davi-Khorasanee is known for her fly fashion forward designs and elevating the female street wear scene to new heights with her high-end approach to a culture so immersed in casual attire.
Bringin it back with the oldschool 90’s basketball shoe, Gabriella adds her MAMA touch to the adidas ProModel not to mention she ties in her infamous tag line “always a lady.” The shoe has subtle but noticeable details that any sneaker fanatic would notice…. the traditional 3 white stripes over a heart embossed black leather background. And my favorite part….. the dope oldschool looking MAMA nameplate lace lock.
This release is strictly for the ladies and will also feature an updated version of MAMA’s lace New Era, MAMA nameplate necklace and matching apparel. Get it MAMA!!!!

Top audiophile pick of the week, courtesy of Justin “Jet” Li…
Audiophiles have had a tough time of it in recent years. Ever since the digital music revolution made it possible for music lovers to archive entire collections on a hard drive, high fidelity and the golden age of home audio equipment have all but disappeared. Fortunately for the stalwarts, a few companies still value the home stereo system as an important element in modern living.
The British manufacturer of high performance speakers, KEF, recently teamed up with the Italian manufacturer, Giorgetti, to prototype a beautiful hybrid stereo-cum-shelving unit, queerly dubbed Stringless Pleasure. Designed by the architect Chi-wing Lo for the Creation 9707 project (a campaign to promote Hong Kong design), the unit is fabricated from antique wood and accentuated by precious stone dials, a slot load CD drive, and a concealed iPod dock.

Embracing the Renaissance with Salvador Dali’s Swans Reflecting Elephants – Samantha the intern’s pick of the week
This is one of my favorite paintings; it shows how creative Dali was as an artist. If you look closely you can see the detail, the swans transform into elephants and other elements are utilized as well.
Street Movement… from the graphic design intern Sergio:
Street Art!!!! Bam, it’s there for anyone to see at any point in time. No one has to pay to see it. This society is bombard by ads and its ok, yet when the space isn’t paid for we think it’s an eyesore. A majority of people who have done street art / graffiti have become designers that fund their personal work. It is a perfect way to design without losing your soul. Artists have always made political posters, Shepard Fairy though is one taking it to a more contemporary time now with elections brewing, with his talents shows his support of Barack Obama. Pivotal for our generation because it also motivates younger voters to take a look at politics and go out and vote.
Kosta is takin it back to the days of the Muppets…Kermit the face of Supreme:
Terry Richardson gets busy with Kermit and Supreme. Every year Supreme has a celebrity to take a photo with there shirt on. This years celebrity is my all time favorite. Kermit the frog. Hes my homeboy from way back!!! But besides that Supreme always comes with interesting and creative marketing schemes and this one tops it off! Its so brilliant to get a puppet that the whole world knows. And not just kids but adults too. Genius. I wonder how much he costs?
