R.I.P. Don Cornelius

The man behind Soul Train was found dead this morning at the age of 75.  He started Soul Train in 1970 and hosted it from then to 1993. The show became an important piece of African-American culture as an entertainment platform featuring music, fashion and dance.  Found with a self inflicted gun shot wound, this news has already shocked many individuals across the United States from all walks of life.  This show featured legendary artists as well as some of biggest acts of this generation before they became mega-superstars.  Not only did the show leave a huge impression but Don himself with his unique voice and parting tagline at the end of each show.

We’ve all been seeing how different brands, organizations and artists have started to create their own channels to showcase their video content online.  There are websites that only exist to be a platform for specific video content to be posted.  On Mashable we came across an article with YouTube’s CEO Salar Kamangar explaining his view of the future in regards to content, the third wave of media and how YouTube fits into all of this.  Article is here.

It’s interesting yet remarkable how hip-hop superstar Drake pretty much dominated the internet on his rise to fame and still does now.   Whether it’s a beef with Common, supposed romances with pop-stars (like Rihanna), or even spooofs by comedians and YouTube stars it seems everyone knows exactly who Drake is and every type of video he’s ever made.  With that said we decided to post Drake’s first music video that many had never seen and when it dropped no one had any idea who Drake was.  How things have changed in a short time.  This video was a single from his second mixtape Comeback Season.


COCA-COLA POLAR BEARS TO WATCH/REACT to SUPER BOWL in REAL-TIME

Coca-Cola polar bears will represent their pick for the Super Bowl and will watch and react to the game as well as the the ads that will hit TV during that time.  Coca-Cola has developed a micro-site for viewers to RSVP and watch the game with the polar bears.  Interactions with the bears will live on Facebook, Twitter and other places that rich-media can “live” such as ESPN.  For more Mashable please check out the source Mashable.  Video below.

ONE LIKE SON NEW ALBUM RECORDED ONLY w/ iPhone

The rock band One Like Son returns from a 10 year hiatus with a new album, the big deal about not just the return is that it was recorded with only iPhone track apps.  The album was finished by New Year’s Eve and will release on iTunes and Bandcamp January 17th of this year.  For more details on their recording process check out the article on Mashable.

VH1 TO ENTER SOCIAL TV & 2ND SCREEN FOR CRITICS CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS

VH1 will debut a second screen experience to launch with it’s 17th Annual Critic’s Choice Movie Awards tonight.  The integration will allow experts and critics to engage via a livestream during the live broadcast of the CCMAs.  The experts are to provide context to the proceedings and also chat with VH1′s audience.  This feature will live on the awards website.  Users will be allowed to ask questions and post comments using their existing social profiles.  We’ve seen how people interact on Twitter and Facebook during award shows, sporting events and more…it looks like VH1 is taking steps to fully embrace this.  For more details check out Mashable.

Will.I.AM’s New Project w/ INTEL: Ultrabook™ Project [VIDEO]

Will.I.AM unveiled his new initiative with Intel™ yesterday at CES and it’s looking rather cool.  With his interests in technology, music and philanthropy, he has found a way to use them all together.  The campaign will involve his new Ultrabook, the new #willpower app and a few other things.  To see what that is watch the video, to get a clear cut example read below:

Towards the end of Intel CEO Paul Cotellini’s keynote, Will previewed the first of 12 songs he’ll be releasing over the course of the next 12 months. The first, “I’ll Blow Your Mind With My Ghetto Blaster,” was recorded in Japan during a four-day trip in which Will.I.AM played a DJ gig, helped raise money for tsunami relief in Japan and recorded a track that captured his experience using Intel technology. “Ghetto Blaster” will be available for a free but will be limited to only 10,000 downloads at Intel.com before it’s taken down.
