On Sunday, Rona and some other Cashmere team members enjoyed themselves at the last Sunday Do Over of the year:

“A couple of the Cashmere Agency crew got our Sunday Funday on at the season finale of the infamous Do Over! I walked in to hear Flying Lotus on deck, Erykah Badu on the mic, and everyone dancing.  Annie, Brandon, James, Kyle and Jasmin got there before me so they got hear the earlier DJ’s in the mix! The Do-Over is always known for the variety of good music, and the DJ’s this week included the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, Just BlazeKing Britt, Cosmic Kids. Shouts to the hosts Chris HaycockJamie Strong, Azul 213, and adidas Originals for a summer filled with good music, good people, and good vibes…oh, and also to the Do Over door ladies who always hold it down!”

Alison went up to Napa Valley in San Francisco for a friend’s wedding over the weekend.

Kristen and Annie were soaking in the sun at Playa Del Rey beach on Labor Day. Such a beautiful day!

#FoodieFriday #Back2TheGrill2011 Recap

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

In last week’s #FitFriday blog, we talked about our adventurous hikes in Culver City. Today, for our #FoodieFriday, we want to show you what caused our need to burn off those extra calories.

On Friday, August 12, grilling history was made, as our very own in-house hobby chefs Anthony (a.k.a. “Grill Master Anferny” for Team Marketing) and Andrew (a.k.a. “Cooking Cow Andrew” for Team PR) stepped up to the plates (literally) to fight for the title of the official Cashmere BBQ Champ!

With our critically acclaimed visual production team as judges, Master of Ceremony Extraordinaire Ryan Ford, and Stampede’s Power 106 Legend Fuzzy Fantabulous on the 1′s and 2′s, the event was promised to be nothing but a fun feast!

Who won? Check out the video to find out…

Where The Gamers At? This Weekend: Call Of Duty XP Fan Spectacular

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

This weekend, September 2 and 3, at the Santa Monica Hangar (5600 Campus Center Dr., Los Angeles, Calif., 90094), Dropkick Murphys and Kanye West are performing at Call of Duty XP, a first-ever Call of Duty Fan Experience.

This event promises to be sick! It features a $1 Million 32-person-last survivor-wins Call of Duty tournament. Goers will get to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 months before anyone else; and upon release, get a deluxe copy of MW3. What’s more, they get to rock out to Irish-Punk Band, Dropkick Murphys, who are opening the festival, and in his first public performance after the mega-success of “Watch the Throne,” Kanye is going to close the show. If that wasn’t enough there will be real-life paintball “frag-fest” tournaments that are inspired by levels from the game. You don’t have to be a hardcore gamer to enjoy this event. So when you are looking for something to do on your three day weekend check this out and tell them Cashmere sent you.

#WeekendRecap – The Cashmere Family’s Star-Studded Weekend

Monday, August 29th, 2011

With the BMI Urban Awards and the MTV VMA’s in town for the weekend, the Cashmere family had no problem keeping themselves busy and entertained.

Alice Han had a great time at the launch party for Skee TV 2.0 and Artist Aaron Axelrod’s pop up display of lasers and SWAT Team on Thursday night.

On Friday, the team attended the 11th Annual BMI Urban Awards at the prestigious Pantages Theater in Hollywood to support Snoop Dogg as he received the BMI Icon Award. Our PR Team worked the red carpet, while some of our other team members mingled and networked at the party and enjoyed performances from a myriad of hip hop legends that included Wiz Khalifa, Nas, Game, Dr. Dre, Daz, and Kurupt, to name a few.

Saturday night was reigned by two West Coast legends, as DJ Quik and Suga Free rocked the stage at Club Nokia for their almost sold-out show. Our very own James Koo was there to watch them (in his words), “simultaneously pimping from opposite ends of the stage.”

N’neka Hite was able to make it to the JW Marriott on Sunday for the 2011 MTV VMA’s where she was able to speak to some celebrities such as Rick Ross and Ron Artest. She was also able to catch a glimpse of arguably the biggest news of the weekend: Beyonce’s baby bump.

Theresa Aufner attended Freestyle Session 14 on Sunday. Here’s how she described the event: “I was impressed by the dancers’ performances, but even more so, I was blown away by seeing two of my favorite producers, DJ Premier and Pete Rock, share a stage and spin a set together.”

Congrats to the winners of Freestyle Sessions, Jinjo Crew, and the runner-ups, Renegades Crew.

Our very own visual production extraordinaire Whoopi, had the privilege of doing the visual effects for DJ Jason Bentley (LA’s KCRW), who opened this weekend for world famous DJ/Producer Deadmau5 at the Palladium in Hollywood.  Whoopi describes his experience: “I was working with the production team that put together Daft Punk’s Alive tour, they were incredibly helpful and fun to work with.”

If you know Deadmau5, you know he has the craziest stage setups!

As you can see, it was yet another epic and successful weekend for Cashmere….and many more to come!

CASHMERE WEEKEND RECAP

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

It was a busy weekend for the Cashmere team.  First stop we hit was the “Perseverance” Show at the Known Gallery.  The show featured work from famous street artists Revok, Rime, and Roid.

Then, the Cashmere crew took the short trip from Hollywood to Downtown LA for the Mad Decent Block Party.  The event was filled with good food, drinks, and dope musical performances.  Mad Decent definitely knows how to throw a party!

Next stop was Battle of the Year US prelims at Avalon in Hollywood on Saturday.  Battle of the Year is one of the biggest BBOY competitions in the world, showcasing some of the top talent from the US and abroad.

On Sunday, the Cashmere fam hit one of their favorite spots in LA, the Do-Over, to continue the fun-filled weekend.  We caught some great DJ sets, and chilled alongside one of the best DJ’s and producers in the game, DJ Premier.  The Do-Over was packed all day, as you never know who is going to hop on the decks!

Our weekend was packed with music, art, dancing, and good friends.  So LA… what’s going on this weekend?

Stones Throw Wins Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash in Los Angeles

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Smog (on left stage) gets wild cheers from the crowd

Last night, Los Angeles showed the Red Bull Music Academy that the United States edition of Culture Clash can be just as live as London. Over 1,500 music lovers made their way to Exchange LA downtown to watch their favorite music collectives battle it out to see who is LA’s best. The contenders were Dim Mak, Dub Club, Smog, and Stones Throw and they had four rounds to show the crowd their best and hope to get crowned LA’s top collective.

Each collective was given their own stage, in their own corner of the venue with the crowd filling in the middle and the balconies. Round one saw each crew getting the crowd amped using their unique mixing styles and notable names from each crew. Some highlights from round one was Dub Club putting their spin on Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It,” Smog’s classic dubstep selections, Stones Throw missing old and new with Snoop and Michael Jackson and finally Dim Mak with a house-party themed stage complete with sofa and beer-pong.

Round two had even more in store, as each collective brought a surprise guest to the stage. This round saw the likes of Rass Kass for Smog, Shinehead for Dub Club, and the Pharcyde’s Fat Lip showed up for Dim Mak. The crowd favorite was Baby Boogaloo for Stones Throw, the five-year-old hip hop dancer who not only killed it with his dance moves, but also got down on the mic.

Round three was the “mix-up” round and it was time for the crews to get creative. Stones Throw opened up the round by getting a little country and mixing in “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” complete with some square dancing moves from their emcees. Dim Mak got down with an old school vibe that brought back The Fugees.  Dub Club added some reggae into the mix and Smog took it to another level by mixing dance, hip hop, electro, reggae and more – really stepping up to the challenge of the round.

In the final round – the “banger” round – had each collective get five minutes of freedom. The crews got wild with Jeopardy game and crowd champagne spray courtesy of Dim Mak, followed by Dub Club bringing ninjas – yes, ninjas – out during “Ninja Mi Ninja” with surprise guest Courtney Melody. Smog decided to bring out 12th planet and Stones Throw finished with Planet Asia.

All the collectives brought their best, but in the end, there could only be one winner. By a roaring approval from the crowd, Stones Throw was crowned LA’s top music collective and Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash’s first ever U.S. champions.

It was an amazing night of great entertainment and even better music and we’re so glad we could be apart of  it. Check out pictures of the event below!
