EVENT RECAP: THE GENERAL STORE POP-UP in DTLA

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Last night a few of the Cashmere team members (Rona, Brandon & Jasmin) went downtown to check out The General Store Pop-Up with featured art from Edition One Hundred, Augustine KOFIE and Miles Regis.  Edition One Hundred was responsible for some great photographs and KOFIE had some interesting illustrations.  Miles Regis had an array of artworks using different painting techniques and also had iPad and laptop skins available with his work on it.  We were there to see the video installation from the Forecast TV, a project from our fashion forward friend Teron Stevenson.  The Forecast TV is a fashion based outlet focused on being ahead of the fashion curves and “forecasting” the next trends.  More photos are inside the post.

Retro Jordans “Cool Greys” Release Causes Chaos

Friday, December 24th, 2010

On Wednesday, fans across the nation began lining up in anticipation for the Thursday release of the limited-edition Jordan XI “Cool Greys”.

Unfortunately, everything didn’t go smoothly as the release wreaked havoc on a number of shoe stores across the country.  In Mesquite, TX, a melee at a mall forced police to use pepper spray after shoppers began pushing as the 6am release time approached.  One woman, Laurie Martinez, waited in line for 11 hours trying to get the coveted pair of shoes before she was maced when the pushing started.

At Deerbrook Mall in Houston, TX, 300 people were lined up outside the doors at 5am and when they rushed in, the unruly crowds damaged the doorways.  This isn’t the first time a Jordan shoe release has caused trouble.  Last year, fights broke out over the “Space Jams” at Westfield Wheaton Shopping Mall.  Veteran shopper, Kelvin Rodriguez says it best: if you want the shoes, “you have to be clever”.

Of course the shoes sold out quickly, and while they retail for $175, sneakerheads speculate they can go for much more on eBay. Check out some of images below from the midnight shoe release.

Cashmere Fashion: Photo Shopping Gone Too Far?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Ann Taylor has successfully turned itself from a staid, homely brand into a covetable one, even garnering comparisons from the New York Times to Dior and Balenciaga. But it’s not all good with the brand’s online store, where online women’s publication, Jezebel, noticed that models appear to have been ridiculously photo shopped.

For example, in the photo below (on the left) from the Ann Taylor online store, the model has hips remarkably smaller than her shoulder span. Also in the below photo (on the right), Ann Taylor helps the model stave off muffin top by digitally sanding down her hips and thighs to avoid fabric folds, which most agree are realistic and hardly unsightly. Also, amazing how smooth the silk shirt in the photo on the right is as its tucked into the model’s slacks, eliminating bunching and rippling.

So it would appear that Ann Taylor is a store with near impossibly smooth clothes and skinny models or they have a little retouching scandal on their hands.  Ultimately, its up to their customers to decide how they feel about this photo shop situation with Ann Taylor’s online store.
