CASHMERE #WEEKENDRECAP [1.6.12]

Monday, January 9th, 2012

The Cashmere Crew was all over the city this weekend and took advantage of plenty eats, great scenery and art.  Take a look for yourself.

Made a trip down to Ikea in Costa Mesa to pick up some desks for the office and remembered that my parents told me about a cool place to grub in Irvine. The illest thing was the bakery. They had a line and someone regulatin’ at the door like it was the hottest club in Hollywood! – Kelly, @Kwoocash

It was an eventful weekend with great company! Had a couple first timers  like hole-in-the wall restaurants in Rowland and Fountain Valley. Rode the ferris wheel in Irvine Spectrum! Beautiful lights, but extremely cold! – Chary, @viaCHARY

On Sunday, I met with my friends at a cafe in Koreatown and had sweet potato lattes and condensed milk toast! It was SO GOOD! – Grace, @gracesharkpark [you have to read below to hear about her Saturday night]

Starting a new tradition for 2012…Every first Saturday of the month, Annie, Grace and I will have an international themed dinner, “Mixed Bites”, that focuses on different cultural foods and tastes.  Kicking off the new year, I hosted our first dinner with an Italian menu, complete with Capellini pasta, oven roasted butternut squash and broccoli and Pinot Noir to wash it all down. – Kristen, @TambyBear

Finished up the weekend with Mr Brainwash’s show.  Still debating if I like him or not, but I definitely enjoyed Seventh Letter Crews contribution on the show. – Alice, @alice_han

I went hiking with some old friends to the top of Ortega Falls in south Orange County.  It ended up being perfect weather for some great photos! – Kyle, @kyledineen

Chilled with my parents…went to the Nipsey & Skeme show in Hermosa Beach! – Joseph, @Jo_AktiveNLA

Music. Urth Caffe’s Green Tea Matcha. Paru’s Punjab Glory. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. – Rona, @ronamercado

Spent the weekend monitoring the MyStyleQuickTip Twitter account as it approaches 1 Million followers. Are you following yet? If not, click the Follow button and then RT a #WorthAMillion – Misty, @LuvlyIzMe

This weekend I landed at a house party on the beach in Malibu and was blown away by some amazing art! – Hip Hop meets the Renaissance. – Mimi, @mimijakes

This weekend, I got my workout on Saturday morning with my moms at the Baldwin Hills Jefferson Stairs. Was proud that at 60, she made it to the top for the first time! – Anthony, @antpooh

It was my second time at Picca on Saturday and I loved it even more than the first time. This restaurant is worth a try! – Hila, @Hilala11

This weekend was all about hanging out with friends and being low key. I went bowling and got 1 strike and 2 spares! I also went down to Venice Beach and people watched the day away …. – Brianne, @QueenB1979

This weekend I was suckered into watching “The Devil Inside” which was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad movie. Don’t waste your money on nonsense. – Selene, @ms_sele

Drove by Staples Center Saturday night and was reminded of how blessed I was to be living in such a beautiful city. – Tim, @itisTimbo

I made smores yo! I ate mine before i could take any photos. – Jasmin, @jasminn

Los Angeles is such an incredible city that envelopes every aspect a vibrant city of such magnitude could possess, from the exciting nightlife to a budding art and food scene.  LA is definitely a cultural powerhouse with a never-ending plethora of events and places to check out.  However, for those with absolutely no money to go anywhere like myself, I made a reservation at my favorite local spot named “Cafe A-Ron,” aka “The Chocolate Bar”.  Located in the bustling area known as my living room, this favorite little dive offers everything from cable TV, moderately priced drinks, and a food menu that boasts three types of Hot Pockets.  The service can be considered lacking at best, but with such competitive prices and lively entertainment and company, you should definitely give Cafe A-Ron a chance.  If anything you can be all trendy and tell all your friends you knew about it first, before it got all commercial and sold out. – Aron, @womenbeshoppen1

My weekend was degrading. In a funny way though. I hung out with the famous comic out of Australia (even though he lives here) Eddie Ifft. He decided to take a video of me before we went surfing and put it on his podcasts’ youtube page. It’s one of the top podcasts in the world and now I’m famous for being out of shape. Take a look

I did plenty of eating this weekend.  Friday evening I convinced a friend to cook chicken enchiladas for my Stampede compadres (Teff, KiKi & Meko).  They helped convince as well.  Saturday I ran a few errands but found time to stop by Bayou Grill (which I used to frequent when we were in our old office) to pick up some jambalaya and gumbo.  Sunday I was working but took a break to check out Oo-Kook in Koreatown with some good friends and my younger brother.  All you can eat Korean BBQ and what seemed like bottomless bottles of Soju.  All in all a good weekend with food, family and friends. – Brandon, @Eazee

I started the weekend by taking my friends out to Roscoes. It was their first time there.  We also got our cars washed…I introduced them to Tender Greens in Culver City as well.  We ended the weekend by playing with their new cat. – Ashten, @whoopthis

The Cashmere Office Gets See’s Chocolates

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Around this time of year, I’ve become accustomed to chocolates being in the office. More specifically, a 2lb box of See’s assorted chocolates. So I bought a box to share with the rest of the Cashmere staff.

Amazingly, everyone wanted the caramel pieces as Alison, Colin, Catherine, and Kristen scooped those up quickly. Brianne was very disappointed with her selection, a nutty cluster piece and started the quest to find the See’s candy box guide. (We never found it!) Ashten came by and picked up a nut cluster piece while Alice continued the love for caramel. Woo took a peanut cluster and his favorite, the butterscotch square. Of course, I had a few including my favorite,  the Toffee stick pieces.

Visual Production team member, Joseph snatches a piece. He ended up grabbing a coconut piece in disappointment before redeeming himself with a caramel piece.

That’s Tambybear looking for her scotchmaloow piece. Unfortunately, Allykat (Alison) had already eaten both of them.

That’s Cashmere’s President, Seung, taking a few pieces. Notice he got a glass water for that thick chocolate.

Cashmere Experiences Mr. Pizza

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

The Cashmere team (Alice, Alison, Annie, Anthony, Brandon, Grace, James, Jasmin, Kelly, and Ryan) had a Monday night outing to say “see you later” to our beloved Theresa and experienced Mr. Pizza for the first time. The food was amazing, as some of their unique pizzas have sweet potatoes baked into the pizza crust. We ordered eight pizzas, two pitchers of Blue Moon, and received ‘service’, which meant two plates of free appetizers.

We will miss you Theresa.

#WeekendRecap – Halloween Celebrations and Attractions of Various Kinds

Monday, October 31st, 2011

“It’s official! I can now say that I’ve been to a true Detroit rap battle thanks to Red Bull EmSee!  This past Friday, I got to fly out to the D to experience Red Bull EmSee in its true essence (and work of course). The night was filled with piercing punch lines and lyrical acrobats.  In the end, it was Eight Mile-native, Hostyle who took the crown and will now be moving on to the Red Bull EmSee Finals in Atlanta later this year…”

“…Biko from The League of Young Voters even made it out to the event! Here he is with good friend and winner of last year’s Red Bull EmSee series, FowL…”

“…Oh, and this is me in the beautiful sky of Detroit…(regardless of what anyone says about the the city.)”

- @tambybear

“This is known as the famous Cardiac Burger from The Bucket in Eagle Rock, CA… 2 1/2-pound beef patties, grilled ham, bacon, mushrooms and onions. I’m willing to bet that this burger has significantly shorten my lifespan. I could’ve finished it, but decided not to.”

- @kwoocash

“I was pre-partying for Halloween at the “This Shit is Haunted” event with @RealUnclePauly, Far East Movement and The Airplane Boys.”

- @DJWillieShakes

“The world of light and shadow was brought to life with Cirque du Soliel’s performance of Iris at the Kodak Theater.”

- @alleykat1110

This weekend, I went up to Angeles Point in Elysian Park. The park is right in the middle of the city near the legendary Dodger Stadium but feels like you’re miles away. Sometimes it’s good to gain perspective!

- @fordryan

“On Friday I went to the reopened Killer Shrimp over in the Marina after work for a friend’s bday dinner.  Killer Shrimp has definitely grown up from the hole in the wall, homely food spot a few blocks over into a sexy, mature restaurant and bar on the water.  They used to have three main dishes, wine and soft drinks…now they have those trusted entrees with more.  Appetizers like lobster mac & cheese and filet mignon dinners are a few standouts.  I went with a trusted dish and got their signature shrimp over rice.  To wrap the weekend I went to a pre-Halloween bash at MyStudio on Sunday.  I even donned a costume like my cousin (lumberjack w/ mullet) and brother (Kenny Powers) and we all received some interesting reactions.  Some extra highlights were seeing NBA stars Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and Russell Westbrook hanging out as well as Taz Arnold (Sa-Ra, TI$A).  At the last minute, Drake stopped by and decided to play some of his music from his forthcoming album for his fans in attendance.  He had some good stuff and got a great reaction.”

WEEKEND RECAP – PERFORMANCES, FESTIVALS, ART, AND FOOD

Monday, October 17th, 2011

“Went with the Stampede Management team and Far East Movement to Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory for a charity event. There was plenty of free food, free drinks, and music. They even had a medieval knight battle on the red carpet.  The Rej3ctz and the Fantasy Factory’s own Chanel performed for the crowd, and even Will.I.Am entertained the hundreds in attendance with a live DJ set and performance.”
Ryan Ford – @fordryan

Check out video footage from the event:

Will.I.Am @ Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory

“This past Saturday, the Cashmere and Stampede crew headed down to Long Beach, CA for the first annual ZAMFEST for Cori B‘s first live stage performance!  She performed her hit single “Do My Thang”, as well as her newest single “SMH” and definitely rocked the crowd!!  Featuring fun arts & craft activities, food trucks and cultural entertainment performances, the crew had a blast in the sun as they collected balloon animals and hung out with Miss Cori B.”

“Sunday, I also joined @rodnotrob and the Levi’s team for the 27th Annual 10k AIDS Walk of Los Angeles. Over 30,000 Angelinos joined the cause to help raise over 3 million dollars!”
Kristen Tambara – @tambybear

“I was in Compton for the shoot of Iggy’s new video ‘My World’, produced by DRUGS.”

James Koo, – @jameskoo

“I had the opportunity to DJ for the New Boyz, Hoodie Allen, and The Rej3ctz at Shocktoberfest in Irvine, CA.  It was a packed house of about 3000 students, and everyone in the crowd was pretty hyped.  The Rej3ctz started the show with good stage presence, and even invited a  bunch of people on stage to join them in their famous “Cat Daddy” song at the end.  Hoodie Allen impressed the crowd with some original tracks, along with his notable covers.  The New Boyz closed the show with a 45 min set covering all their hits, which all 3000 people seemed to know word for word.  It was a dope show to be a part of and it was awesome to share the stage with some good up-and-coming artists.”

Kyle Dineen – @kyledineen

“I went to the Known Gallery in LA to check out the Daze and HowNosm art show.”

Alice Han – @alice_han

“I actually went out over the weekend and attended the Taste of Soul event in Leimert Park on Saturday.  On the bill was Doug E. Fresh, Naughty By Nature, Johnny Gill, Tyrese, Lenny Williams to name a few.”

Kelly Woo – @kwoocash

“On Saturday I walked over to Crenshaw Blvd in my neighborhood of Leimert Park for the Taste of Soul event.  The Taste of Soul is annual event put on by local radio stations 94.7 the Wave and 102.3 KJLH.  It’s a great event that showcases many of the community and it’s surrounding neighbors’ restaurants and catering services.  With vendors specializing in Soul Food, Creole, Jamaican and other Carribean cuisines there is enough different food to try all day long.  Because of the radio involvement there are several stages showcasing an array of talent (upcoming and established).  This year brought out Goapele, Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Johnny Gill, Al B. Sure, Tyrese and more.  I couldn’t stay long enough to see some of the acts I would’ve enjoyed seeing, but I ate some great BBQ and catfish that day.  This was probably the biggest turnout in years.  Food, politics, community issues, health and car giveaways were also a big part of the event.  With the turnout this year it looked as if everyone was happy and many local businesses received plenty of exposure and made plenty of money…which at the end of the day is what it was all about.”

#FoodieFriday – The Cashmere Fam Hearts Souplantation

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Whenever we feel the need to regroup outside of the office for a delicious, healthy, and hearty lunch, the first spot that usually comes to our minds is Souplantation.

Last month, Ryan, Alice, James, Misty, Kelly, and Stampede Management‘s Kaylen headed out to the restaurant’s location at the Howard Hughes Promenade to fuel their hungry stomachs and creative brains.

When talking about getting the best food at the best value, look no further than Souplantation!

#FoodieFriday #Back2TheGrill2011 Recap

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

In last week’s #FitFriday blog, we talked about our adventurous hikes in Culver City. Today, for our #FoodieFriday, we want to show you what caused our need to burn off those extra calories.

On Friday, August 12, grilling history was made, as our very own in-house hobby chefs Anthony (a.k.a. “Grill Master Anferny” for Team Marketing) and Andrew (a.k.a. “Cooking Cow Andrew” for Team PR) stepped up to the plates (literally) to fight for the title of the official Cashmere BBQ Champ!

With our critically acclaimed visual production team as judges, Master of Ceremony Extraordinaire Ryan Ford, and Stampede’s Power 106 Legend Fuzzy Fantabulous on the 1′s and 2′s, the event was promised to be nothing but a fun feast!

Who won? Check out the video to find out…

Cashmere’s Epic Saturday: From Little Tokyo to Koreatown

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

If you have to work on a Saturday, at least make room for some fun! Some of the Cashmere crew (Alice, Kelly, James, Tim, and myself) hooked up with our girls from Blush to support their appearance at the Nisei Week Festival in Little Tokyo. The girls performed a brief set to kick off Los Angeles’ annual celebration of Japanese culture, including their single “Undivided” featuring Snoop Dogg. The girls were able to convert attendees into Blush fans with their fun and family-oriented music, and afterward, signed autographs and took pictures with their new found fans. Head over to their Facebook page and check out their exclusive videos from this weekend’s performance.

The team took a break from all the festivities and, upon Alice’s recommendation, headed over to The Corner Place in K-Town that featured some indoor BBQ action going. While we sampled a bit of barbecue, the real story is the vinegary and sweet cold noodle soup known as Dongchimi Gooksu that totally hit the spot on this hot day. After gorging ourselves, we walked a few blocks to Boba Time, recommended by James, for some shaved ice. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, stop in. We recommend the Boba Time Deluxe, a serious mountain of shaved ice, fresh fruit, mochi, ice cream, and other goodies.

Dongchimi Gooksu, a summer staple in Korean cuisine.

Boba Time Deluxe: fresh fruit, ice cream, mochi, condensed milk, and Korean grain powder (misutgaru) served on top of shaved ice. Behind, you'll see 'the Alice Han', aka 1/2 Milk Tea and 1/2 Coffee.

Timothy, James, Kelly, and Alice stop for a mid-dessert pic.

Of course the day was just getting started, as it was off to the Pacific Festival for a very special delivery to one of our artists: an advanced copy of the Madden NFL ’12! It hits stores August 30th, but guess who got the hook up a few weeks early! You’ll note below that Snoop Dogg’s “BOOM” is also included on the soundtrack!

Madden NFL ’12 Track Listing:

  1. 6 Foot 7 Foot – Lil Wayne
  2. All Around The World – Theophilus London
  3. Architects – Rise Against
  4. Award Tour – A Tribe Called Quest
  5. Back For More – Five Finger Death Punch
  6. Boom – Snoop Dogg feat. T-Pain
  7. Bridge Burning – Foo Fighters
  8. Champion – Chipmunk feat. Chris Brown
  9. Colours – Grouplove
  10. Don’t Play Me Close – David Rush
  11. Get Up – KoRn vs. Skrillex
  12. Get The – Up – Yelawolf
  13. Ghetto Dreams – Common feat. Nas
  14. I Want It All/We Will Rock You – Queen feat. Armageddon
  15. Last Man Standing – Asher Roth feat. Akon
  16. Make Some Noise – Beastie Boys
  17. Mind Your Manners – Chiddy Bang feat. Icona Pop
  18. On Ya Mind – Mellowhype
  19. Pass Out – Tinie Tempah
  20. That Ain’t Classy – Classified
  21. They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y) – Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth

Then, along with Justin Li (of our sister company, Stampede Management), I made my way over to Silverado in time to catch Ghostland Observatory, Snoop Dogg (OF COURSE) and Cut Copy perform. The entire show was awesome and had a mini-Coachella vibe about it.

Rona, Justin, and producer FredWreck.

Snoop Dogg hits the stage

It’s always good to see Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt, and Daz on stage together and they didn’t let me down with their performance. RIP Nate Dogg.
