Hip-Hop & Soap Operas

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Hip-Hop and Soap Operas, we know, run in two different worlds. However, is it frowned upon for a music artist, specifically in the Hip-Hop industry, to delve into all things entertainment? Well, one such individual seems to reap success in all his entertainment endeavors despite what people think.

Yes, the homie, Big Snoopy D-O, scores again! From Martha Stewart and the Stock Exchange to making guest appearances on daytime soap One Life to Live,  the 36 year-old rapper alludes to the statement “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

One Life to Live has been a renowned staple of daytime television for over 40 years, with the character Bo, played by actor Robert S. Woods, being a favorite Snoop’s. Tomorrow, Snoop will make his second appearance on the show, once again playing himself (or a close of enough version) and perform his hit single, “I Wanna Rock”, from his recently released album, Malice N Wonderland.

Check out Snoop Dogg on One Life to Live tomorrow and click on the picture below to watch Snoop’s previous guest spot on the soap opera.

Terrace Martin Jazzes It Up With 808s & Sax Breaks!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

808's SAXBREAKS

Despite producing numerous standout tracks for the likes of Snoop Dogg and Kurupt, Terrace Martin’s first love remains the saxophone. It’s fitting then, that his latest release is titled 808s & Sax Breaks. Inspired by Kanye West’s acclaimed 808s & Heartbreaks, Terrace selected the original album’s strongest tracks and reinterprets them as enchanting, sax-infused numbers. Adding a refreshing dimension to an already excellent body of work, 808s & Sax Breaks allows Terrace to display his gifts as a jazz musician.  His passion and soulfulness is clearly reflected on this exciting new release that should be embraced by Hip-Hop and jazz fans alike.

Make sure to watch the above video as Terrace Martin speaks about creating 808s & Sax Breaks and gives you a glimpse of the production.  808s & Sax Breaks now available on iTunes for only $2.99 and will be available on Amazon shortly!!  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Locke High School’s music program!

Myspace Music Takes over Imeem!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Picture 5

After months of speculation, iMeem is turning over their keys to MySpace Music’s corporate buyout in exchange for $1 million in cash. Unlike the previous acquisition of iLike being bought out by Myspace.com, iMeem is being acquired by MySpace Music -a joint venture between MySpace and most of the major music labels.

iMeem has held a strong online presence when it comes to music.  They helped pioneer the free advertising-supported music model for online music, which let consumers to legally upload, stream, share music and music playlists for free by the support of advertising.  During iMeem’s successful six years, the popular music and video streaming site boasted 16 million monthly users that are now in the hands of MySpace Music.

As of now, there’s no word if the iMeem brand will continue to exist under MySpace management or where talent and assets will end up. But by all accounts, this is a great move by MySpace Music to gain new monthly users and take advantage of  iMeem’s technology!
