R.I.P. LISA “LEFT EYE” LOPES

Today marks 10 years since the passing of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The member of (and one of the creative minds behind) super-star group TLC was the only casualty in a tragic car accident. Lopes passed at the age of 30. Her personality and style is still greatly missed today.

Today, The League of Young Voters Education Fund and Green For All released The Green Room Mixtape hosted by DJ Willie Shakes in honor of Earth Day. The mixtape features music from some of today’s hottest hip-hop and R&B acts including Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, BJ the Chicago Kid and Dee-1. The music featured on The Green Room Mixtape represents communities from across the U.S., and those who download the free mixtape will also receive the Block Rockers Toolkit with resources to help them make their community greener.

AUGUST ALSINA RELEASES DEBUT MIXTAPE, THE PRODUCT

After months of viral videos, cover songs and leaks, 19-year-old New Orleans native August Alsina released his debut mixtape, The Product, on April 15. The DJ Scream-assisted mixtape finally arrived as a free download, much to the delight of his Twitter and Facebook supporters!

The April 15 release date is one of personal significance to August, as it’s the birthday of his late brother who was gunned down in New Orleans in 2010. The words “Dedicated to my big brother. R.I.P. Melvin LaBranch III, 4.15.86 – 8.31.10” appear on the mixtape’s back cover. The release is a fitting dedication to the brother who inspired August to leave the street life behind and make music his full-time hustle.

The young up-and-comer has already received an endorsement from New Orleans legend Juvenile, who is featured on the mixtape. The Product also includes appearances by Houston’s Trae Tha Truth, G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi The Prynce, Atlanta’s 2Win and New Orleans female MC 3D Na’tee.

Early standout tracks from The Product, include a cover of the Drake/Hot Boyz hit “HYFR,” titled “Ode to My Project Chicks” (produced by The Exclusives), the anti-love song “Sucka” (produced by Sound Mob) and “Bad Muthaf*cka” (produced by D. Clax).

The League of Young Voters Education Fund’s 99Problems.org has teamed up with Green 4 All to bring you The Green Room Mixtape hosted by DJ Willie Shakes. The mixtape features some of today’s hottest hip hop and R&B artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, BJ the Chicago Kid, Dee-1, Rebel Diaz, BRWN BFLO, Green 4 All’s Markese Bryant and many more.

In honor of Earth Day, this mixtape represents the “green room” (i.e. city parks, local grocery stores and livable spaces) needed by communities across the country to survive.

THE AIRPLANE BOYS – BEAU MONDE [MUSIC VIDEO]

Today, The Airplane Boys released a new music video for their single “Beau Monde” (produced by DJA) from their recently-released mixtape, Alignment. Directed by their creative collective, Beau Monde (which includes Justin Create, KMS and Warren Credo) the music video is a reflection of their lifestyle and life adventures. The Airplane Boys will be performing the next two weekends at Coachella.
