#WESTCOASTWEDNESDAYS: TYLER, THE CREATOR, HODGY & DOMO GENESIS – RELLA [MUSIC VIDEO]

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Usually for West Coast Wednesdays we focus so much on the music from back in the day, but we’ve been neglecting the music that’s recently been getting the West Coast it’s recent recognition.  As much as he doesn’t hang his hat on being an L.A. artist, Tyler, the Creator and his Odd Future crew are pretty much very representative of Los Angeles and it’s culture.  Tyler and his crew are recognized for their outlandish and rebellious music as much as they are recognized for their visuals (ask MTV).  Along with Domo Genesis and Hodgy, Tyler dropped this video earlier this week…pretty creative video.  It’s getting plenty of attention so if you haven’t seen it, do so now.

Cashmere Event Recap: Capcom’s Fight Club

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Capcom had their new fighters, Ultimate Marvel vs Street Fighter 3 and much anticipated Street Fighter vs Tekken, on display last night for their annual Fight Club event in Los Angeles. Being the video gaming geek –and proud of it– that I am, of course I was there to receive the VIP treatment along with another member of the Cashmere Crew, Brandon, for a night of dragon punches, open bar, free food, live music, and scantily clad girls dressed up as our favorite video game vixens.

The vibe in the theater was unique with club goers out for a good time, industry professionals networking and a horde of gamers to get the first hands on playing time with Capcom’s new releases. While I love schooling newbs daily on the gridiron in Madden, and take  glee killing elementary school kids  in Call of Duty, there’s something about getting on those old school arcade sticks to throw hadokens and sonic booms in Street Fighter. And the games themselves, AWESOME. Playing these titles on the PlayStation 3 is a MUST. The animation looks super crisp with the PS3 pumping out graphics on those Blu Ray discs.

Street Fighter vs Tekken is the better of the two for me. The diverse roster and novelty of these two fighting series collaborating adds a new dimension to the franchise. While I found the game speed to move a little slow, I assume that can be adjusted from the options screen. Ultimate Marvel vs Street Fighter 3 is clearly for hardcore gamers. The action is fast and, at times, chaotic. If you can’t combo or execute super moves, don’t bother picking up the stick. FYI, I was reduced to random button mashing to keep up with my FEMALE opponent and still got crushed.

All things considered, a dope night of gaming entertainment!

Introducing Papa Sangre: Video Gaming without Visuals

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Have you ever heard of a video game with no video? Now you have. Get ready for Papa Sangre, the world’s newest game that is certain to give players a thrill, while the screen remains blank.

The premise of the game is that the user is in Papa Sangre’s territory, described by the creators as a “Mexican graveyard on the Day of the Dead – with the lights off”, someone you love needs to be rescued, and you both need to escape. But the twist is, you cannot see a thing.

Papa Sangre is a game that centers entirely around sound via audio clues. The creators have developed an entire world using the first ever real-time 3D audio engine implemented on a hand held device. Users have said that the thriller aspects incorporated into the game become very real using only audio.

Go to the App Store, close your eyes, play the game, and prepare to sleep with the lights on. For more information, head over to their website and check out the trailer below for Papa Sangre.

Super Mario Bros. Turns 25 Today!!!

Monday, September 13th, 2010

That’s right, 25 years ago today, the video gaming landscape irrevocably changed with the release of the most enduring, most popular, and most profitable gaming franchise EVER, Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. debuted in Japan 25 years ago today on the Famicom, the Japanese version of what we Americans came to know as the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short. Since then, Mario has become one of the most iconic characters and entertainment brands in the world.

Hardcore gaming fans all know  that Mario actually made his first appearance in the arcade games Donkey Kong and Mario Bros., but it was the release of  Super Mario Bros. that not only reversed the video game crash of the early 80s, but contributed significantly to making video games commonplace in homes around the world where they remain today.

Super Mario Bros. has sold more than 40 million copies over the past 25 years. The game was bundled with the NES, and it’s tough to say whether it was successful because of the NES or vice versa.

Check out the video below that Nintendo put together to celebrate 25 years of Super Mario Bros. And head over to The Guardian to check out their list of 25 fun Mario facts.
