Cashmere Agency, Cashmere Crew, Weekend, WeekendRecap#WeekendRecap – Halloween Celebrations and Attractions of Various Kinds
Monday, October 31st, 2011
“It’s official! I can now say that I’ve been to a true Detroit rap battle thanks to Red Bull EmSee! This past Friday, I got to fly out to the D to experience Red Bull EmSee in its true essence (and work of course). The night was filled with piercing punch lines and lyrical acrobats. In the end, it was Eight Mile-native, Hostyle who took the crown and will now be moving on to the Red Bull EmSee Finals in Atlanta later this year…”
“…Biko from The League of Young Voters even made it out to the event! Here he is with good friend and winner of last year’s Red Bull EmSee series, FowL…”
“…Oh, and this is me in the beautiful sky of Detroit…(regardless of what anyone says about the the city.)”
“This is known as the famous Cardiac Burger from The Bucket in Eagle Rock, CA… 2 1/2-pound beef patties, grilled ham, bacon, mushrooms and onions. I’m willing to bet that this burger has significantly shorten my lifespan. I could’ve finished it, but decided not to.”
“I was pre-partying for Halloween at the “This Shit is Haunted” event with @RealUnclePauly, Far East Movement and The Airplane Boys.”
“The world of light and shadow was brought to life with Cirque du Soliel’s performance of Iris at the Kodak Theater.”
This weekend, I went up to Angeles Point in Elysian Park. The park is right in the middle of the city near the legendary Dodger Stadium but feels like you’re miles away. Sometimes it’s good to gain perspective!
“On Friday I went to the reopened Killer Shrimp over in the Marina after work for a friend’s bday dinner. Killer Shrimp has definitely grown up from the hole in the wall, homely food spot a few blocks over into a sexy, mature restaurant and bar on the water. They used to have three main dishes, wine and soft drinks…now they have those trusted entrees with more. Appetizers like lobster mac & cheese and filet mignon dinners are a few standouts. I went with a trusted dish and got their signature shrimp over rice. To wrap the weekend I went to a pre-Halloween bash at MyStudio on Sunday. I even donned a costume like my cousin (lumberjack w/ mullet) and brother (Kenny Powers) and we all received some interesting reactions. Some extra highlights were seeing NBA stars Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and Russell Westbrook hanging out as well as Taz Arnold (Sa-Ra, TI$A). At the last minute, Drake stopped by and decided to play some of his music from his forthcoming album for his fans in attendance. He had some good stuff and got a great reaction.”

#WeekendRecap – Pumpkins, Shrimp, Mishaps, and High Society
Monday, October 24th, 2011
@Mimijakes and @jasminn got in Halloween mood and carved out some amazing Jack-o’-lanterns.
“On Sunday I finally made it over to the Boiling Crab in Koreatown. I’ve known of this restaurant for over a year now and had yet to go. With plans of watching some football and pigging out, I made it over. After a 40min wait I was ready to eat. I ordered a pound of shrimp and a pound of king crab legs. I went with the “Whole Sha-Bang” seasoning, spicy. I’d call myself pretty satisfied seeing that I ate everything that was in those two bags. My stomach was very happy, however my basketball shorts haven’t forgiven me yet for the stains left on them (shrugs).”
- @eazee
“I got locked out of my car at the office on Sunday and @shenANNIEgans and @TheColinPierce came to rescue me. I bought them margaritas and tacos after.”
“Saturday night was one of dichotomy. After checking out new Interscope artist Don Trip and headliner The Game at House of Blues Sunset Strip, we headed over to Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane‘s for a 50/60s themed super party. While partygoers were in outfits from the era, we managed to slip in wearing our gear from the Game concert.”

“I was in Compton for the shoot of Iggy’s new video ‘My World’, produced by DRUGS.”
James Koo, – @jameskoo
“I had the opportunity to DJ for the New Boyz, Hoodie Allen, and The Rej3ctz at Shocktoberfest in Irvine, CA. It was a packed house of about 3000 students, and everyone in the crowd was pretty hyped. The Rej3ctz started the show with good stage presence, and even invited a bunch of people on stage to join them in their famous “Cat Daddy” song at the end. Hoodie Allen impressed the crowd with some original tracks, along with his notable covers. The New Boyz closed the show with a 45 min set covering all their hits, which all 3000 people seemed to know word for word. It was a dope show to be a part of and it was awesome to share the stage with some good up-and-coming artists.”
Kyle Dineen – @kyledineen
“I went to the Known Gallery in LA to check out the Daze and HowNosm art show.”
Alice Han – @alice_han
“I actually went out over the weekend and attended the Taste of Soul event in Leimert Park on Saturday. On the bill was Doug E. Fresh, Naughty By Nature, Johnny Gill, Tyrese, Lenny Williams to name a few.”
Kelly Woo – @kwoocash
“On Saturday I walked over to Crenshaw Blvd in my neighborhood of Leimert Park for the Taste of Soul event. The Taste of Soul is annual event put on by local radio stations 94.7 the Wave and 102.3 KJLH. It’s a great event that showcases many of the community and it’s surrounding neighbors’ restaurants and catering services. With vendors specializing in Soul Food, Creole, Jamaican and other Carribean cuisines there is enough different food to try all day long. Because of the radio involvement there are several stages showcasing an array of talent (upcoming and established). This year brought out Goapele, Naughty by Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Johnny Gill, Al B. Sure, Tyrese and more. I couldn’t stay long enough to see some of the acts I would’ve enjoyed seeing, but I ate some great BBQ and catfish that day. This was probably the biggest turnout in years. Food, politics, community issues, health and car giveaways were also a big part of the event. With the turnout this year it looked as if everyone was happy and many local businesses received plenty of exposure and made plenty of money…which at the end of the day is what it was all about.”

“On Saturday I met up with our very own James Koo to check out the Building An Industry Career Panel at The Attic in Buena Park. The panel consisted of the visionaries behind popular brands Black Scale, Crooks & Castles and Diamond Supply Co. Mega (Black Scale), Dennis (Crooks) & Nick (Diamond) spoke to a remarkable turnout of young potential entrepreneurs looking to start their own fashion brands about their influences, getting started, their rise to where they are now, as well as some insider info. They took questions from the audience, as well as the UStream that went down. They also took the time to sign autographs and take pictures with their fans. For food, the popular OC mobile restaurant “The Lime Truck” was there to feed the attendees. The Lime Truck was on the TV show The Great Food Truck Race and is powered by another popular streetwear brand IM-King. Behind The Hustle and Attic put on a great event. They will be re-running the ustream again on Monday. “

“I went to the famed Hollywood Bowl to catch one my all time favorite bands, Incubus, as well as Young The Giant.”
- Alison Kwee (alleykat1110)
“I went to Evidence‘s release party for his new album Cats & Dogs last Thursday at the Viper Room. It was amazing! One of my favorite albums this year so far! Buy it!!!”
- Theresa Aufner (@destined_2_win)
“I went to the Drew League vs Goodman League game at the Pyramid at Long Beach State. Some of the players included John Wall, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, James Harden, and Brandon Jennings.”

“Rona along with members of the 213 Bike Crew participated for the 3rd time in Ciclavia this year. For 5 hours yesterday, Sunday Oct. 9th, LA shut down streets and dedicated a 10 mile route to encourage Angeleno’s to bike, walk, skate…anything but drive. About 130,000 people participated and hit the streets! Check out some of the photos from LA Weekly here. Shouts out to @azul213, @bobbyramberg, @verbsisthehomie, @mearone, @emortalclothing, @iamreal8, @a_chung and others that participated in @ciclavia! Next biking event that the biking crew is looking forward to is an event called “Free The Streets”

About CicLAvia:
Inspired by the original Ciclovías in Bogotá, Colombia, which were created in response to increasing traffic congestion and pollution in the city, CicLAvia aims to open Los Angeles streets to pedestrians and byciclists in order to see the city, mingle with others, and spend the day away from their cars. Ciclavia events encourage community building, active lifestyles which promote health, and social consciousness about pollution and our environmental impact in LA.

“Our weekend got kicked off early as we met up with Image Entertainment‘s Marketing VP, Nick Lamer, Friday night to attend the Live DVD taping of David E. Talbert‘s A Fool and His Money at The Madrid Theater in Canoga Park. For me, it was my first exposure to playwright David E. Talbert, and trying as hard as I could, I couldn’t hold back the tears of joy at the end of the play. Starring Michael Beach (the brother who left Angela Bassett in Waiting to Exhale and cheated on Vanessa L. Williams in Soul Food), Cindy Herron of En Vogue, and comedian Eddie Griffin, Cashmere appreciated being able to experience the strong cast’s performance for the packed house. Definitely will be a DVD worth picking up upon release.”
- Anthony Kennedy (@antpooh)
“On Saturday I headed out to Pomona to see local hip hop acts Skeme, YG and Pac Div perform at the Glasshouse. This was the first time Pac Div has performed since being granted a release from Motown/Universal last month. Before Pac Div took the stage an array of local acts took the stage getting the crowd ready for the three names on the main bill. Skeme went first out of the main three. He put on quite an energetic show despite not sleeping and coming straight off the road from Arizona to perform. Skeme is currently on tour with Strong Arm Steady. Skeme brought out Compton emcee Problem to do their newly released track. With the crowd pumped up, YG (who I didn’t get to photograph) made his way to the stage and ran through a set full of club/party favorites. From there DJ Sean G got the crowd going with old school West Coast hits including Pomona’s hero Suga Free. Pac Div jumped onstage as their popular single Mayor dropped. The trio ran through an array of favorites from all of their mixtapes including their first one: “Sealed for Freshness”. The crew is getting ready to release their independent debut album “The Div” on iTunes 11.8.2011. It’s been a long time coming and knowing these guys personally I couldn’t be happier for them.”
- Brandon Banks (@eazee)
In the meantime, other members of the Cashmere crew went to see Far East Movement and Blush (amongst others) perform at the 2011 ISA Festival, Los Angeles…
…and DJ WIllie Shakes was at the Snooper League, “for my bro game. Compton Vikings!”
Joseph spent the weekend in Altanta for the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, where he ran into DMX. The show will air October 11th.

Sunday night, Brandon headed out to Zanzibar in Santa Monica to check out the 3rd Annual Project Live: Beat Showcase. The event is put on by L.A. based producers Dae One (Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg) and THX (Snoop Dogg, David Banner) and features many of other upcoming producers from the Los Angeles area. Many of these producers have gotten mainstream placements as well as provided the beats for L.A.’s rising underground scene. The list included Swiff D (Pac Div, Jadakiss, David Banner, 50 Cent, Dom Kennedy), Curtiss King (Glasses Malone, Mack 10), Willie B (Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock), THC (Kendrick Lamar, Dom Kennedy, OverDoz), Phonix (The Game, 50 Cent), Jansport J (Planet Asia, Strong Arm Steady), TaeBeast (Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock) and more. The producers played some of their popular beats as well as new creations. It wasn’t a battle but more of a place for everyone to meet and see some of the people behind their favorite songs. This year’s event was dedicated to DJ Khalil who did a special set as he played tracks he produced for Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, The Game, Fabolous, Drake, Jim Jones, the Clipse and some special beats many hadn’t heard yet. There was a huge turnout and it was good to see artists like Dom Kennedy, Thurzday, Jay Rock (pictured w/ Willie B), Terrace Martin and more come out to support their musical peers.
This past Saturday, Cashmere’s Colin, Grace, Aron and Kristen, along with Roderick and Renee, “jumped” for joy at the Orange County Sky High Sports complex where the floors and walls were made of trampolines. The day was filled with high flying jumps, flips, hardcore parkour, foam pits and trampoline dodgeball, in which they all got their asses handed to by little kids.
James spent the weekend at Paramount Studios with Chordz, Buddah, Chozen, and Iggy Azalea, mixing down Iggy’s “Ignorant Art” to be released tomorrow, 9/27!!

Rona: LA VS WAR II - Art’s New Peace Movement
To see many people from Los Angeles, San Francisco and beyond come together in the name of art, music, love, social awareness and community was amazing.

WAR II was a 3 day part exhibition, and part experiential event. It was nice to see such a diverse group of people and families come together for this.

Cashmere Agency, Cashmere Crew, Community, L.A., Movies, Sports, Weekend, WeekendRecap#FitFriday – A Fun Night Out at Golf N’ Stuff
Friday, September 9th, 2011
Now, I know what you might be thinking: Mini golf is not really a sport, or even considerably physically challenging in any way. However, if you replace the classic date night of dinner followed by sitting in the movie theater for two hours (while possibly munching on buttered popcorn) with a night of walking around several pretty mini golf courses, chances are, you are saving some credit in your calorie bank.
Anyway, calories were the last thing on our minds when my better half and I decided to head out to Golf N’ Stuff in Norwalk last month for some fun rounds of mini golf. Okay, I admit, we even loaded up on tacos and nachos before we went. But back to the point: I challenge everyone to postpone their next couch potato weekend to Winter and grab a friend or date and hit up a mini golf course in their neighborhood! Enjoy the fake, but nevertheless beautiful scenery and the warm late summer nights while you still can!
