Jordan Peele’s debut film Get Out dropped late February 2017, and has gained more traction than ever imaginable thanks to its combination of old-fashioned Hollywood suspense with a thought-provoking exploration of modern racial tensions.
The film has generated an unprecedented amount of praise and promotion from celebrities, critics, media outlets, and, most recently, hip-hop artists–some even buying out screenings for friends and fans. Chance the Rapper, most recently known for his Grammy wins, bought out a theater in Chicago so fans could catch it. Additionally, hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg hosted a screening in Los Angeles, inviting musicians and influencers including Ty Dolla $ign and Christina Milian, among others.
Get Out’s popularity, along with the contributions of Snoop Dogg and Chance the Rapper, led to Young Thug hosting his very own screening of the movie at The Grove theaters in Los Angeles.
It’s fair to say that this movie has resonated with both filmgoers and the hip hop community as a whole. At Cashmere, we’re excited to lead the public relations effort and see this unexpected cultural phenomenon come to fruition in new and exciting ways. We can’t wait to see how this project continues to bring people together from many different communities.
