Whether it’s art, fashion, or music, pop-up’s are becoming a popular way for artists and brands to market themselves by selling rare merch, exhibiting art, or throwing concerts. The term “pop-up” means that the events are temporary so everything is first come, first serve. Some recent pop-up events were held by big names like Adidas, Travis Scott, and Kendrick Lamar.
Adidas Immersive Pop-Up Gallery
Adidas Originals launched a new pop-up exhibit in honor of the design philosophy behind their NMD sneakers by celebrating the history of photography. The ideology behind the sportswear brand is “the past empowers the future,” and the new camera obscura pop-up gave people a chance to experience photography long before the digital era to show how much technology has advanced. The camera obscura ran from noon to 7pm, July 11th through July 16th and was located at Windward Plaza Park in Venice, California.
Travis Scott’s London Pop-Up Shop
While on tour, Travis Scott spontaneously announced that he will be opening a pop-up shop through twitter: “ON THE WAY… TWO DAYS ONLY.” The pop-up shop, selling items from Travis’ collection, was held at Soho’s One By One Tattoo shop in London and was open the weekend of the Wireless Festival where Travis performed.
Kendrick Lamar’s The Damn Pop-Up
Kendrick Lamar has selected 15 cities from his Damn tour that will be opening pop-up shops. He first made the announcement by tweeting the link: “THEDAMNPOPUP.com” which shows the cities selected, what dates they will be open, and where the shops will be located. The first Damn pop-up shop launched in Dallas, TX on July 14th, which is the same day Kendrick performed there at the American Airlines Center. The shops will sell Kendrick’s apparel from Top Dawg Entertainment (https://txdxe.com/) featuring clothing with the album cover text “DAMN.” on them.
